Oregon wide receiver Darren Carrington Jr. missed the College Football Playoff championship game because of a failure to abide by an "NCAA policy," which was reportedly a failed drug test. In the days following Ohio State's win in North Texas, Carrington's father reached out to the media to try and clarify the situation.

Darren Carrington Sr. told CSNNW's Aaron Fentress that the Oregon wide receiver was in the room with others who were using marijuana, leading to secondhand smoke that triggered the failed drug test.

I haven't heard this discussed much but Oregon was a much different team with him sitting out that game.

quote:

Carrington's absence felt particularly big after a late-season emergence that saw the Ducks wide recevier total 291 receiving yards and three touchdowns in wins over Arizona and Florida State.

quote:

Carrington Sr. says his son tested positive for "15 nanograms of THC per milliliter of blood" when the drug test was administered the week of the Rose Bowl. According to CSSNW.com, those levels could be a result of secondhand smoke or marijuana use within weeks of the test. The NCAA threshold for a positive test used to be 15 nanograms of THC per milliliter of blood before it was dropped to 5 nanograms in August 2013.

If he would have been in that first half catching all those dropped balls the other guys were missing coulda woulda...

Wouldn't have helped their defense one bit.

You mean the writer or the parent and would it be about Oregon being handicapped or his exposure and methodology for banned substances?

Go on...

The son is lying about not smoking pot.

The parent probably believes it, or could be covering.

The writer is just reporting it.

First-you for believing the report (about 2nd hand smoke)
Second-the writer for printing it

Sure it is...just not something that causes you to test positive. Has anyone ever failed a drug screen and not used that excuse?

Those who fail the cocaine portion. That would be great. Either it was "second hand sniffing" or "I was just hanging out around some people who were smoking crack"

Current research has shown that passive exposure may result in low level positives (up to about 30 ng/ml) if the exposure conditions are severe enough. That means heavy smoke in a confined, non-ventilated space for an extended period of time. The data also suggests that THC is not likely to be detectable for more than about 24 hours after such exposure. It is unlikely that most people would tolerate the extreme conditions necessary to produce a positive result from passive exposure. The federal guidelines for work place testing have reduced the cutoff level for positive results from 100 ng/ml to 50 ng/ml, because it can be safely assumed that levels exceeding 50 ng/ml represent use of THC rather than exposure to side stream smoke.

Talk about jumping the shark now we have moved into full blown Narcotics which are more expensive per gram than gold....

He's a college student for Pete's sake not a defense lawyer with disposable income...

OSU was scoring every single time they got the ball (minus the occasional turnover), running at will.

Oregon wont he turnover battle 4-0 and still lost by 22.

They were lucky they didn't lose by 50.
