Interested in the boards opinion here.

Before Spurrier, for the most part the program was pretty bad. I don't believe they are in the top 50 for all time wins. Spurrier built them up pretty well though. Never quite got to the elite, but made the tier just below.

Will they go back to the dark ages, or has Spurrier built enough of a foundation for them to stay as a legitimate program? Obviously, it will depend largely on who they hire but thoughts?

Depends on if they get someone that can recruit.

If so, then they will probably be alright. If not, then well.....the drop is steep.

Oregon lost it's architect but didn't miss a beat

Most other teams haven't fared so well

Reality hit this past season. Good thing they've polished up their coattail riding the past few years.

I think they'd be a more attractable program than what they were pre-Spurrier, so I think they'll be a pretty competitive program post-Spurrier with a good hire. Say around usually 9-4 or so.

They'll probably be as good as Mizzou down the road. They will have a couple of winning seasons here and there, some bowl games, maybe win the division when its down.

I think South Carolina would be a really good fit for either Muschamp or Kirby. Recruit like crazy, hire a solid OC and they'd win 8-10 games a year or better if either ends up being good/turning a corner. Gotta have a guy who can sign kids from the Carolinas and grab a few from Atlanta and Florida and you will have enough players to compete.

I'd have a bad feeling they'd let Spurrier tell them who to hire and lord knows where that would go.

The name of the game in the SEC is recruiting. The only two exceptions are Missouri's two fluky SEC East titles due to Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee being "down."

Better? Spurrier, once he got the program on his footing starting in about 2010, has gone

2010 : 9-5
2011 : 11-2
2012 : 11-2
2013 : 11-2
2014 : 7-6

No, I don't think they'll average 10 wins a year. I think they'll average 7-9.

It wouldn't be the first time he went and destroyed something Spurrier built. I can't imagine South Carolina giving Muschamp the job.

I think we will be fine. I don't think we will win 10 games a yr because realistically nobody does that not even the schools that are classified as elite.

They will win the same number of SEC championships after Spurrier that they have won with him.

There are other factors to consider. The state of South Carolina has one of better economies in the south, and around the country. That means the state will grow as people continue move in to find jobs.

Some of those families moving in will bring in kids that might have been stars in their previous state.

South Carolina is already a great state to recruit in, and it's going to get better.

Spurrier built enough of a foundation for them to stay as a legitimate program

Thats my take. Reading some interesting articles about "Battling for South Carolina" involving USC and Clemson its seems that USC has turned the proverbial corner in state.

I would suspect that they would be a competitive program and not fall back into the darkness like they were prior to Holtz/Spurrier.

This. All the new facilities and upgrades will just go to expanding women's sports. You saw how quickly we reached #1 in basketball. Imagine if we dropped football.

Don't worry, if you get too good in basketball, we'll bring in an expansion team to strengthen the conference and challenge the top teams.

You, know...like we did with Missouri.

2013 wasn't a fluke. Mizzou was legit.
