This is an idea I have to help pass the off season and learn more about Alabama. Official Categories are listed on Page 2. By the time the season rolls around we'll have a nice thread full of places and things to try during your fall travels?

We'll use the up/down vote button to tally votes. I'll tally votes bi-weekly which will leave time for discussions and maybe even give people a chance to try suggested restaurants/places before making a vote. I'll update thread title w/ Pg # so you'll know where to go for a new category.

Voting for Best Burger is now Open beginning on Page 3

Will this be the state as a whole, or will you break it down to major counties/cities?

I was thinking the state as a whole to keep it simple? Also as a way to find out about places off the beaten path in smaller counties/area

How would a breakdown work?

Brainstorming here. You might be able to run the voting process by running one category every week till we're done.

All through the week you have people post a single suggestion per post and people upvote if they agree. Then take all the places mentioned and take the two with the most upvotes and put them head to head and have people upvote/downvote to signify there choice.

In the OP you can list all the categories when they are finalized and list the week voting will take place. Then in the OP you can let people know the exact page voting starts for each category so people aren't scrolling through with no demarcation. i.e.

Best Burger - Voting begins Feb 9 - Page 6 of thread

So this is how the voting can be done. I forget about the up/down vote function at times

This is what I was thinking. That way we don't have several different threads which would likely cause confusion. Also people can bookmark the thread as a easy reference guide for places they would like to try

In general, we could use "best city to live in Alabama."
Best Sushi
Best Steakhouse
Best malls
Best locations to watch the Auburn game.
Best athletes ( former and present) of Alabama
Best schools in Alabama

You will like the Volcano rolls at Rice Box in Florence I bet.
Bentos of turd town has a pretty good one as well.

Truth be told. if you want the best sushi, you have to get out of this state, so...

Not talking about eateries here:

Best Cool/off beaten path place to discover that most don't know about

Or
Best place to take a woman that will make her want to give you the nookie more than ever

Or
Best place that you will enjoy, but you don't want to take your woman

Here's an answer for some. The sammich, steak, sweets, and best to drive for are pretty tough, especially the drive for one.

Best Burger: Chez Fon Fon - Birmingham
Best BBQ: Saw's BBQ - Birmingham (Shout out to Rusty's in Leeds though)
Best Breakfast
Meal that's worth the drive:
Best meat & 3: Nikki's West - Birmingham
Best Steak
Best Italian
Best Fine Dining: Bottega - Birmingham
Best sandwich
Best sweets
Best pizza: Not going to lie, Little Italy in Auburn is pretty fantastic stuff.

Very good.

Jinsei in Birmingham has some phenomenal stuff as well.

Now that I have Asian on my mind, I highly recommend going to Naruto cafe in Auburn if you haven't. Hibachi style stuff. Their rice bowls are fantastic. Put that orange sauce in there

Peanut Butter porter - Druid City or Beer Engineers. They are both great.

Trimtab Four Roses Bourbon barrel aged old ale is a close second.
