I heard them talking about this last night during the in-game broadcast.

Sounds potentially very serious.

Will it bleed-over into the Vols program? Are y'all not just-now coming-off-of probation from the Bruce Pearl era?

https://www.knoxnews.com/govolsxtra/basketball/UT Vols coach tied to major problems at So Miss

quote:

Tyndall was the coach at Southern Miss from April 2012 to April 2014.

Southern Miss’ ban includes both the Conference USA tournament and the NCAA tournament.

“This self-imposed penalty was a painful, but necessary, decision based on information gathered during the review process and available to the university at this time.”

A UT spokesman said UT had no comment on the development.

Multiple media outlets have reported the alleged violations stem from how non-scholarship athletes paid for tuition and living expenses, along with potential academic improprieties.

Members of the NCAA enforcement staff reportedly interviewed Tyndall in Knoxville in November.

Two members of the UT staff who followed Tyndall from Southern Miss to UT resigned since the investigation became public knowledge. R.J. Rush, special assistant to the head coach, resigned citing family reasons on Nov. 11. Adam Howard, assistant coach, resigned citing personal reasons on Nov. 24.

Southern Miss is taking themsleves out of a postseason they weren't going to qualify for.

That being said, no idea if we will be able to keep Tyndall.

Trouble at past schools rarely follow coaches to their new gig.

Unless the NCAA figures out Tyndall was involved in some way then he will be fine if I had to guess.

Tennessee won't be in any trouble. If Tyndall is punished by the NCAA, Tennessee can fire him with cause.

It would suck, but Tennessee is clean here.

Interesting that you would start this thread, butthurt much?

To be fair to him this seems like the first thread about this.

The news broke during our game last night.

It was presented in a much harsher light by the on-air talent.

It was the lead story on Sports Center at one point last night.

It has not been discussed here to the best of my knowledge and, if so, a search did not show anything so SIAP.

I thought I was being nice about it - just asking the question so I could gather some information and hold an intelligent discussion about it with my older brother who is a huge UT fan/alum.

And no, I'm not butthurt, but thanks for the downvote as it exposes your worries about this ... insecure much?

Personally, I don't like seeing other coaches/programs in the league in trouble - it's not good for the league.

Rumors that Southern Miss Compliance OK'd that entire situation involving the 2 players. If true, Southern Miss could get a failure to monitor charge.
Also if true, Tyndall should be cleared of any wrongdoing if compliance said it was fine.

The vibe in Knoxville is Tyndall will not get hit with a show-cause. A multi-game suspension is probably worst-case scenario

Probably the same thing they made of it when it "broke" months ago.

Call us when the NCAA makes their ruiling.

I doubt it. Tyndall didn't do anything here and managed to move on before the lawmen came - staying a step ahead of the NCAA jobwise is a specialty of several very good basketball coaches it seems.

Hart did a background check on Tyndall before hiring him and at that time nothing was going on. He contacted both the school and the NCAA and the NCAA gave him the clear on Tyndall. It would be awfully sticky for the NCAA to try and punish us given they gave us the ok on the hire.

I doubt it effects us.

Should be interesting.

It broke on November 15, 2014 .... what, 65 days ago?

You've got So Miss self-imposing post season bans (when they were not going anywhere anyways), as of yesterday.

You've got aides and assistants that Tyndall took with him to UTK bailing ... or falling on the knife with golden parachutes strapped-on by the Vols.

You've got new accusations surfacing and the NCAA in full investigative mode as reported during the game last night.

Things seem to be heating-up especially given that it now appears that former Tyndall aide Wade O'Connor is the snitch that is spilling the beans on Tyndall and his methodology while at So Miss.

You've got Tyndall hiring big time lawyers preparing for a defense.

I just wish we could get through a season or two without Tennessee being investigated for something nefarious. What's it gonna be next?

We're not going to get rid of Tyndall short of a show-cause and even then we'd probably show cause.
