I've known only three men who beat women.

1. Highschool "friend", actually hated his guts but he lived in the neighborhood so we all hung out. Dude was a dirtbag and continued to be so in to adulthood. Real piece of shite.

2. My biological grandfather. Used to beat up on my Grandmother, Uncle and Mother.

3. A former boss of mine. I had a dark point in my life and to commiserate he shared that he went through a dark place where he was an alcoholic and beat on his wife. I have a great deal of respect for the man.

I can certainly come up with scenarios where it would be defensible. If a woman is coming at you with a knife or physically assaulting your child or something like that then I would have no problem with a man using physical force to stop her.

Generally speaking though, a man should do everything in his power to avoid hitting a woman in normal conflicts. I don't defend women who get hit after antagonizing a man because they think they are immune from repercusions, but I would never do it. I would simply walk away from any scenario which didn't involve a threat to my life or someone who couldn't defend themselves.

I would not hit a woman or child for any reason unless a crime was being committed.

I would viciously attack a man who was beating a woman, child or animal.

If she is physically threatening you or someone else, then knock her the frick out. You don't get a pass just because you have a vagina.

ETA: FTR, I have never hit a woman, but I have also never hit a man (outside of boxing with some friends as teenagers).
