I know this has been brought up before, but the ESPN SEC blog article this morning made me think about it again. Usually when you hear about friends coaching against each other they either use some cop out like "it's just like any other game I have to deal with" or flat out say they don't like coaching against friends.

But actually encouraging a close friend to take the same position at an in division school? That's pretty stunning. Chavis doesn't just not mind playing his good friend Kevin Steele, he wanted it.

quote:

"He's the one that when it all started about him [going] somewhere else, he called," Steele said. "And so after he took that, he said, 'Man, you ought to go to LSU.' He said, 'You ought to take that job.' Obviously I didn't have it, so it was kind of hard to take something you didn't have."

Chavis REALLY wanted Steele at LSU. Makes you wonder why he would want that.

But Steele will not be a Chavis clone in his new job. He is known as a recruiting ace, where Chavis' strength is more in the schematic X's and O's.

it was a promotion and I am sure he put Steele's name in the pot, especially if he left on good terms. Steele as a DC only had one bad year at clempson.

Im sure Steele thought long and hard about not taking this promotion and pay raise. Your DC clearly was the difference maker in this very difficult decision for him.

Because Chavis was looking out for his buddy and knows LSU is a great job. But A&M is a less demanding job for more money, Chavis had to take it. If he improves that D only slightly he'll be a hero there.

Welcome to last week.

Any other breaking news such as water is wet, and "We landed on the Moon!"?

Ground breaking shite. It's going to be awesome around here next year when A&M loses 4 or 5 games again.

Well, that makes Chavis a special kind of piece of shite then because Steele is one of his oldest friends.

Still can't believe y'all pay Sumlin $5 million a year. Y'all got fricking hoodwinked in that deal.

Thanks for Steele and O. Congrats on Chavis and his recruiting prowess (currently ranked 380+ on 247).

No shite. It started way too early this year. Just wait until signing day in a few weeks when LSU's tdecline™ continues by the signing of a top 5-7 class in a "down" recruiting year.
