AUBURN, Alabama -- Nick Marshall is headed to the Senior Bowl.

Auburn's two-year starter at quarterback was added to the Reese's Senior Bowl roster Friday and will play with the South team, executive director Phil Savage confirmed to AL.com. The game kicks off Jan. 24 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.

Marshall was an alternate entering the week, but the Senior Bowl decided in the 11th hour to invite Auburn's dual-threat quarterback. It's possible the Senior Bowl could include four quarterbacks on the South team with Marshall's addition, which will be a first for the premier all-star game.

Why? They were waiting on Mariotta and Hundley to decline. Marshall is a fringe QB prospect at best; the NFL gets a big say in who they want at the Senior Bowl because it is first and foremost an evaluation event.

Don't start the stupid "Alabama bias" BS.

You'd have a point if Blake Sims didn't get an invite.

Hence it would be a perfect opportunity for Nick to show both QB and athletic skills for another position. If he is going to be a DB in NFL, wouldnt you rather see him there for a couple practices before drafting him?

This is good news and I appreciate his total effort for the past two years. Hope he has a great game and an NFL opportunity.

Mobile is full of BAMA homers, listen to WNSP in the afternoons and read the Mobile Press Register sports section.

Blake Sims completed nearly 65% of his passes this season, threw for a higher yards-per-attempt than Marshall, passed for about 1,000 more yards than Marshall, and had a better TD:INT ratio to boot. He did all of that in a more Pro-oriented offense.

Why exactly am I supposed to be outraged that Sims was selected over Marshall? Sims is the better passer, and guess what? The NFL is a passing league.

I thought this would be the one place where we wouldn't cry and try to use the "anti-Auburn conspiracy theory" rationale, but alas I guess I was wrong. The NFL has first say in who gets selected, period. They send a list and after all that Savage has some small leeway in selecting local players to up the marketability of the game itself (which the NFL gives zero fricks about, BTW). They typically only carry 6 quarterbacks, and guess what? First dibs are going to go to guys the NFL wants to see. That includes guys like Mariotta and Hundley which is what the holdup for Marshall was.

Don't be a bunch of sad-kunts. Are you seriously outraged that a guy with horribly inconsistent accuracy, poor touch, and zero ability to read a defense was seen as a backup option? Seriously? Did Marshall even make one route progression during his time at Auburn?

Yes. Against UGA Sammie was his primary target in 2013. He read the UGA DBs and accurately predicted the physics of the bounce to put it right in front of Louis.
