2014 SEC Pass Defense Breakout
* Alabama finished 13th out of 14 in the SEC in pass plays of 10+ yards per game (9.50). MSU was last at 9.77. LSU was 1st with 6.15. If you want to know why Alabama's defense was not what it was before take a look at # of pass plays of 10+ yards per game from 2011 - 2014
2011 : 4.08
2012 : 6.43
2013 : 7.00
2014 : 9.50
* Georgia did not allow a single pass play over 40+ yards all season. They only allowed 8 of 30+ yards or more.
* Mississippi State gave up by far the most "big plays" in the passing game.

Saban is a terrible DB coach.

from these statistics, it's pretty clear the linebacker coaches were to blame... no wonder saban told them to 'look around'.

Linebackers had a lot to do with those high 10-20 yard pass play numbers. A whole lot.

Our 2014 secondary gave me cancer.

Good point, didn't take that extra game into account.

Yep, and he did that with a depleted secondary...could be scary good the next couple of years as y'all get more familiar with his scheme...

Maybe if our linebackers would get to the damn qb on time the qb wouldn't have the time to throw up those hail mary's. Instead, most of our blitzing linebackers were late.

Just Pruitt.
And he did that with a decimated DB corps and true freshmen. Not too shabby.

If the highly touted freshman hold serve this year on the DL, we could be nasty on D

State actually led the country in red zone defense in 2014, so giving up pass plays of 20-30 yards wasn't a problem.
State's problem was giving up pass plays of 60+ yards. Probably worst in the country.

ON the flip side, Alabama's run defense was it's usual self.
44 runs of 10+ yards, an average of 3.14 a game. The next closest was Florida at 3.75.

No, LSU fans keep telling me we don't have the talent for Chavis to work his magic.
