LINK Watts, of course, is the flunky the UA BOT brought in to shut down UAB football for a nice going away present for Paul (Cub)Bryant, Jr who has to retire from the board next month at age 70.

Any chance of reinstatement?

Ok, I'm beginning to get the impression some LSU fans have real concerns about UAB and their football program and aren't just trolling.
Is everyone who graduated from UAB a closet LSU fan?

I just think a lot of people see how ridiculous it is and started following the situation.
It would not surprise me if a lot of UAB grads were fans of anyone besides Alabama.

LSU Fan
Vestavia Hills, AL
I would say he has some interest in it since he is from the area.

No, just living here its unsavory to see so many otherwise bright and successful people over the last 30 yrs on the UA board , do as much as possible to minimize UAB and UAB athletics. Bear didn't want them to have sports, so the least they can do is bully them and slap them around.

UAB should never had gone FBS level in the first place.
There are about ~30 teams that really have no business being higher than FCS, and it isn't because of on the field performance. If you're moving up to FBS and there is a market for it (Boise St, UTSA, etc) then it's a good risk. But some teams should never have moved.

Maybe they shouldn't have. But when it was revealed over the weekend that about this time last year a member of the board who is a huge Tide supporter wouldn't allow UAB to accept a $1M gift to upgrade their practice fields, you just shake and/or scratch your head.

I have a graduate degree from UAB. Don't really care about any of this. I didn't want to see the UAB football team fail, and think a good competitive team with a nice on-campus stadium would have been good for the city.
The bottom line is they had terrible fan support over the years, and a terrible record most years.
I have no idea if the BOT sabotaged their program over the years. There's certainly plenty of speculation they did. But the BOT had little to do with them being in an area with over 1 million residents and getting less than 10,000 of them on average to attend their games.

The money and support have always been there. UAB boosters were going to pay jimbo fischers salary themselves. They had the financing lined up and commitments for season tickets, luxury boxes, and sponsorship for a new stadium years ago.
They have and have had everything needed for a viable D1 program.
Just lies, lies, and more lies out of Tuscaloosa as to why the program should be shut down. It is a disgrace. Something the university of Alabama has always excelled at.

Bet their attendance would be a lot better if UA had not sabatoged them for the past decade.
Highly doubt bama would be selling out all their games if they were forced to play at legion field with Neil Calloway as their coach the past decade.

Calloway was only there for 4 years.
And who said anything about selling out? They play in a stadium with ~60,000 seats, then tarp off the end zone seats to dwindle the seating capacity even more, and still barely fill the available seats to 50% capacity. They've had 20 years to drum up local support and have failed to do that.

You so not think attendance would have been better with good coaches instead of a hand picked by UA disaster in calloway? Or if they had gotten the on campus stadium?
