With Colorado passing legalization, I've noticed a lot of pub around consumables. I've done a lot of things before including smoking pot, but I've never eaten any. I quit smoking cigarettes over ten years ago and I couldn't imagine smoking anything any more. Are the consumables just as good?

Consumables are just as likely to lead to harder drugs

Edibles have a high that lasts much longer and I find it preferable to smoking. It takes a longer time to take effect and thus inexperienced users sometimes eat too many and get way too high.

Reminds me of this guy I knew who are too many shroom chocos one time because they were "weak" and weren't kicking in. Led to a bad trip where he thought he was in hell and pissed himself standing up.

It is much harder to dose yourself with edibles. When you smoke/vape, you can control your intake and get quick feedback. With edibles, you wait for 45 minutes and you may either be comfortably stoned or utterly zonked.

I wouldn't recommend it

I smoked quit a bit and then ate my first edible thinking it would be a similar experience. Its not and my experience with that edible led me to completely quit smoking.

If you're gonna do it at the very least make sure you have reliable roommates/friends that you see most days of the week that would recognize if you display unusual behavior several days after taking the edible.

Are you planning on making your own?

Meh, better advice is to just eat a small portion of whatever edible you have, then wait an hour. If you haven't done marijuana in many years, you'll get a buzz, and the buzz lasts much longer than from smoking.

I haven't smoked in a few years, but ate about half of a gummy bear a friend in Colorado sent me a few months ago and I was fine. Pretty stoned for a few hours, but I could still function. Friend whose a regular smoker ate the other half and he was pretty buzzed as well.

Definitely do not eat the entire piece of whatever you get.

There have been quite a few around here lately, if you take too many you'll mostly just want to sleep. My friend has been getting them for his mom, she was taking some strong pain meds that were knocking her out. She says she likes the edibles better because they relive her pain and she can still function during the day.

Edibles are alright, but I prefer to smoke. I just don't like having to wait for an hour to see how stoned I am. If you do happen to overdo it with edibles just find somewhere to relax and remind yourself that it is just weed, it won't kill you, and it will wear off in a few hours.

my first experience with real edibles (made cookies with cannibutter, as opposed to moron friends dumping shite straight in to brownie mix) was terrible. I ate a cookie, waited 30-45 minutes and didn't feel anything. Proceeded to eat another 2 cookies. Never been so high or amazingly paranoid/freaked out in my life. It wasn't enjoyable and was very scary. Mind you, I was a regular (daily smoker) then, so I was caught completely off guard by how strong and long lasting the high was.

The important part of the above quote was the very end...remind yourself its just weed and it won't kill you and go to sleep. I did this and woke up stoned the next day, but fine.

Moral of the story...everyone has to have a bad experience with edibles to take them seriously and learn how to dose it properly. When done right, it's fantastic (the rest of our cookie adventures were great).
