My major concern with him is that the injury he sustained has decreased his speed.

That is a valid concern. However, it seems like everyone dogging Eddie Jackson is forgetting what Hightower was like his first year back after ACL surgery, he was not the same player in 2010 as he was in 2009 before his injury. In 2011 he was back to form; maybe Jackson does lose some speed and is never back to his 2013 self, but I'm not giving up on him until I see what he looks like in 2015.

- QB play should be fine. Kiffin made Sims a 3400 yard passer, imagine what he'd do with a real QB

- We return our leading rusher

- Defense stacked

- Nick Saban is our coach

Just the cliffs.

Why is he so horrible and a reason why we wont be in contention next year?

He isn't.

But TB/CJ/EJ all need to be on the field. Keeping TB on the bench for half of another season would be a waste. EJ fits better at Safety than TB does. EJ could always play Star, but at least at Safety he's always on the field. Granted, Star is on the field like 95% of the time.

The guys over at BOL seem pretty confident in Eddie Jackson making a significant jump next year like Cyrus did.

I agree. If he stays at CB I think he'll be one of the best in the SEC, if not the country. Cyrus will be, at worst, 2nd team AA imo.

While we only have 2 starters returning on offense

Cam Robinson
Ryan Kelly
OJ Howard

Three starters.

Henry wasn't the starter, but was our leading rusher.

Could be wrong, but I think Vogler was actually listed as the starting TE...

Ok then, but Howard/Henry are still pretty much returning starters.

I didnt see him take a snap, but he's always in full pads on the sideline. Can they dress when they red-shirt?

So has everyone completely given up on Bateman, or is he and Morris next on the list for transfers?

i've always liked bateman's prospects ... hasn't panned out yet, but he's got a chance, given the way sims handled the pressure of learning to be a leader ...

I know all the world is gaga over offense and I also know our defense got owned down the stretch. But that defense was pretty young overall.

As it stands we have 7 Defensive upper classmen with experience. That does not include DaShawn Hand who we hope will have a break out season. At DB we have 6 upper classmen with experience. At LB we have 6 upper classmen with experience.

I'm not saying they will be great but experience always seems to help and we have a lot of it.

A lot of the same kids from the 2011 defense looked pretty weak in the 2010 defense. I liked the results of that one. The similarities between the 2010 and 2014 offenses are kind of eerie, too. Okay line coupled with a senior QB, Juniors at WR and HB that were obviously leaving early, with a major dropoff after the star receiver, but a very talented stable of runningbacks that would return the next year. The biggest difference I see is that we didn't have a TE like Michael Williams unless you count Brandon Greene, which I tend not to. OJ is just flat-out weak. He'd be much better as a receiver. I'm hoping this year's offense will de-emphasize QB play, but short of that, at least provide more checkdown options in play-action scenarios. If Coker or Bateman sits back in the pocket too long they will be punished against teams like A&M, LSU, Tennessee, and Georgia, who will be able to send as many as they want and likely beat the young line early and often once they're on their heels.
