Didn't get a chance to listen to this one but Tigers swept all 4 from Iona. Tigers of recent never would have done that.

14-2 this time around.

Rash got the start and pitched 4.1 innings, giving up 1 ER on 3 hits. He had 5 strikeouts in those 4.1 innings but his downfall was the 4 walks to go along with it. He great can be real great but if he wants to make a weekend rotation, he has to work on his control or TJ will never use him.

Lots of hitting except for that .042 hitter who got another start and went 0 for 2.

Also, #Mizzou pitchers lead the SEC in K/BB ratio (39-6) and we rank second in the SEC in walks allowed despite ranking second in IP

We lead the SEC in stolen bases (12) after week one. It took us 12 games to have 12 steals a season ago and we had just 40 in 2104 #SECSpeed

Even more amazingly, McClain allowed just three baserunners over 8.0 innings. He picked off two of those three baserunners.

R. McClain was the only SEC starter to pitch 8.0 innings last wknd. Leads the SEC in Ks, ERA, BB allowed, IP, 3rd among starters in OPP BA

Not to mention the fact they have Mike Matheny's son. That kid can hit.

Baseball heads to warm weather again in Corpus Christi Texas for games this weekend, starting tomorrow.

Thursday 2/19 6:00 vs. Texas A&M - Corpus Christi
Friday 2/20 3:00 vs. Sam Houston State
Saturday 2/21 7:00 vs. Texas A&M - Corpus Christi
Sunday 2/22 11:00 vs. Purdue

Not SEC level competition but a step up from Iona. Would be nice to win 3 of 4 this weekend.

Mizzou loses 3-2. Bats returned to last year's form. Why TJ continues to play Munson is beyond me, not that he was the only one not to hit. I also have a hard time believing that Fairbanks is a weekend starter but according to TJ he is.

How awesome is that for Bond!!!!

And that's 17 shutout innings for McClain in 2 starts.

Lose to an inferior Corpus Christi and beat a solid Sam Houston State.

We were just talking about him tonight at the basketball game. Stoked for him.

I didn't realize his brother, Brock, played at Mizzou and played minor league ball, too.

Yepp. And I was surprised that a Tiger baseball follower I was talking to didn't know, and in case others don't, Shane Benes is Andy Benes of Cardinal fame's son.

Nice blurb from an article on D1Baseball that was written yesterday about Mizzou's Reggie McClain:

10 Thoughts from Feb 20

quote:

2. MISSOURI’S REGGIE McCLAIN OWNS FEBRUARY

No pitcher in college baseball is hotter than Missouri junior righthander Reggie McClain, who has opened the season with 17 consecutive scoreless innings. The first eight were against overmatched Iona on Opening Day, but he followed up that three-hit performance with a shutout against a quality Sam Houston State club on Friday. McClain allowed just four hits without issuing a walk and struck out four, and SHSU’s Andrew Godail matched him zero for zero into the bottom of the ninth, when Brett Bond belted a walk-off two-run homer.

The Tigers expected McClain, a transfer from Manatee (Fla.) CC, to make a big difference in their rotation right away, and he has been even better than they could have hoped. Missouri coach Tim Jamieson said that McClain worked at 87-89 mph with good sink on his fastball Friday, mixing in his changeup and curveball in any count. “Just really pitching,” Jamieson said.

Through his 17 innings, he has allowed just seven hits and has yet to issue a walk.

Thanks for that and your weekend threads Cayce!

McClain has certainly been a bright spot for the team. Our pitching hasn't really been a problem in recent years. The bats have got to produce and the fielding has to be shored up. If we can do that, we won't win the SEC but we could ruin someone's day.

And how about that freshman Bond getting his 2nd HR.
