With those two players on defense I believe that Bama would be playing Monday night for the championship.

Bell made the play that cost Bama a chance for the go ahead score when he intercepted Sims pass to Howard right after the punt that only went to the 30.

Huge momentum swing with that play.

IMO Bama was 2 DBs away from a championship caliber defense. Fortunately, there are young guys on the team and coming to rectify that area of weakness on the defense.

The crazy thing is that there was speculation (started by a recruiting analyst IIRC) that Bama didn't have room for Vonn Bell and basically passed on him. But in one of the PC's leading up to the playoff game CNS said we "certainly wanted him in our program" so I guess the rumor was bogus

From my understanding Saban wanted Conner more and wouldn't let Bell commit. Bell then commited to OSU and we got burned by Conner. I felt from the beginning we should have taken Bell instead of chasing Conner

Well, one that we got that could have been huge. Eddie Williams.

I'm happy with Hootie, Thompson with SBB and Clark. True bammers

Forgot about him being I that class. Just goes to show us that there is fine line between being great, above average, average and below. There has to be a balance on returning experience at each position grouping, which is hard to do when the great players leave early for the draft, have a few get kicked out or are injured and all of a sudden the depth chart goes to shite.

How hard is it to plan out a team. To win it all. I really believe that with the right players in the secondary this year we win it all.

It i but in today's football climate there is little room for misses. When you are contending for titles year in and out you nost desperately need to have depth in case of injuries and in case of players leaving early. We are still feeling the effects of Vinnie leaving early and possibly giving youger guys time to develop. You will never get them all but you sometimes you have to take the player that you know wants to come

Are there any facts behind us not taking Bell initially? Is all of that talk just conjecture?

What about Brandon Hill taking up a spot in the 2012 and 2013 classes. That spot in 2012 could have gone to Darius Philon or Kwon Alexander and the the spot in 2013 could have gone to Bell. From what I heard all 3 wanted to be at Bama. Where hell is Brandon Hill at these days?

Hindsight is 20/20. Hill had a lot of potential. Might've been the next Fluker if he had been able to keep his weight down. Currently rated the #1 OG in juco

Bell isn't the size that Saban prefers for DBs. I think he's only 5'11.

We didn't recruit him as a db. Slot receiver. Only moved there out of necessity, but not what Saban typically looks for in his dbs.

id rather we pursue guys based on their ball-hawking skills even if they arent 6 feet, but im just a random fan on a message board.

I think we need to just start taking the best players at positions like DBs and not worry about size. Just my opinion.

I think his sparq had him at 5'11, but his profile has him at 6'0. I can't find Vonn's sparq, but his profile has him listed at 5"11, so he is probably an inch shorter than that, as profile heights are rarely correct for the under six feet players.

This could be said about any 5 star recruit who's passed on Bama and has done well else where. There's no guarantee connor or bell wouldve been as good as Bama as they are at ole miss/Ohio state.
