quote:

“We’re Americans so we don’t want to single out people, but when you look at that list just since 9/11, then we had the Madrid bombings in ’04, London in ’05, Mumbai, the Kenyan mall, Benghazi, which was one of 20 cities that erupted when that movie Innocence of Muslims was on the Internet, ISIS, Boko Haram who killed an entire village this week, Pakistan last year killing all those kids at the school, Canada parliament, Australia,” said Maher. “What we’ve said all along, and have been called bigots for it, is when there’s this many bad apples, there’s something wrong with the orchard.”
quote:

“Obviously, the vast majority of Muslims would never do anything like this,” said Maher. “But they share bad ideas. This is the thing that caused the big ruckus when Ben Affleck was here. Sam Harris said, ‘Islam is the motherlode of bad ideas,’ and everyone went frickin’ nuts on this side of the panel. But it is. These two guys who shot up the cartoonists the other day, they were avenging the prophet, they said? A bad idea. Martyrdom? A bad idea. Women as second-class citizens? A bad idea. And unfortunately, the terrorists and the mainstream share a lot of these bad ideas.”

I disagree with Bill on pretty much every single thing he says but his stance on this topic I tend to agree with.

Same here. I dislike Maher a great deal, but he's right about Islam, IMO.

Religion of peace.

Vast minorities.

Etc, etc.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

If the media says it enough, I must accept it as fact.

So what is the point of this? What does he want to do about Islam?

Meh. He's right in a way. No other religion has people in so many terrorist cells and committing so many bombings, executions, etc.

The root cause of everything is self interest. This manifests itself in many ways. Money, power, women, glory. In these Mulsim regions, the ones with the most power are the religious figure heads. Has the House of Saud punished anyone accused of funding terrorism? No. There is money going to the institution of terrorism at almost every level. The Westboro Baptists would be bombing gay weddings and abortion clinics if their fanaticism, regional influences and culture were transposed with the Middle East. You can find hate and prejudice in a lot of things, and at the end of it, people see what they want to see. Islam is not the biggest culprit here. Is it a better conduit? Probably. Fiber is better conduit for high speed network than copper cables. I think it's the same principle.

Buddhism is actually more conductive than Islam, but not as durable.

This is an interesting metaphor. I think with modern electronic media and the Internet in particular, you take western culture and immediately insert it into every other culture on the planet and subvert it. This is complicated by the wide spread flexibility of communication that comes with use of english.

English is highly flexible with a subject and verb in every sentence, making highly complex ideas, relatively compact to communicate. Arabic like many other languages, has a subject and verb often in separate sentences or implied through context. Because of the flexibility of English and the net, other cultures are being eroded.

That threat, is what is creating this outlashing by islamic fundamentalists. Ultimately they will lose for the same reason.

Atheism and Islam are similar religions. You see a high majority of the mass killings in the US done by atheists.

Thats part of it. And the ability to instantly and ubiquitously transmit western ideas and culture anywhere anytime worldwide. You basically have the ability to put Bill Mahers ideas immediately and instantly into every living room in the world. That ability, mush less the message, pisses the Muslims off.

I think we should porn bomb islamic web sites to rub this capability in.

A stupid fricking "religion" based off of a "prophets" ideology.

And these stupid motherfrickers follow his word which condones violence to anyone not embracing Islam.

frick them. frick em all. My life in NO way would be negatively affected if they all left Earth immediately.

Until they have a huge march where they publicly denounce the actions of the radicals, I will distrust all and stay clear.

And bit here, do the rally in your homeland and point out individual leaders of the radicals

Until then, you know they all agree

I don't watch Real Time, but I tuned in last night knowing he'd go off on a tirade. He fortunately only invited people on the panel who were complete regulars and agreed with him on Islam to where they were actually able to have a truly honest discussion on Islam. Bill Maher, whether he likes it or not, is really doing god's work by bringing this into the mainstream. Really hope he isn't killed over it.
