Good times.. Wonder what happened to that.

We started blitzing safeties and multiple DBs. Need to just blitz Evans from a rover spot.

Rushing a corner is about a 10 out of 10 on the risk scale when opposing offenses line up with 5 WRs and get a play off in 3 seconds.

It's just asking for trouble.

Where does dropping 8 in coverage fall on the risk scale?

How about not pressuring a QB and giving him 5 seconds and clear running lanes?

I'll hang up and listen.

A lot of the times when he blitzed it was from Star. IIRC Menzie did some too

I like doing it to teams that do a lot of east-west stuff. Pretty much shuts down a jet sweep or bootleg to that side.

No one is really good at it, Javy had like 5-6 sacks one year. That's talent more so than scheme.

Vinnie blitzed a bit from the slot with OK success. More pressure than play, really liked sending the double DB blitz on the right side(left densive side). Back when they were short on CBs and used more safeties.

Too much trust in the front 7 this season, were never consistent enough. Depending on DePriest to blitz and hit home is an oddity, but you send them if you don't drop them.

We ran a star blitz with Geno against MSU and it resulted in a safety. Seems like I recall brown blitzing the most from the corner spot this year.

I thought Jarrick Williams was going to turn into that guy, but I guess he was too set back by injuries.

Javi was probable Saban's finest coaching job.

One of my all time favorite Bama players.

Imagine Cyrus Jones playing the Javier Arenas role.

Agree. Arenas was a classic overachiever; didn't have great size, didn't have elite speed, but got the utmost out of his talent. Made several All-American teams as a corner and as a returner in '09...

I'd give anything to have him back as a punt returner. He had HUGE impacts on games. We always had good field position. He either made a good return, or they kicked it short to avoid him. Why we've been doing what we've been doing (or not doing) in the return game is a mystery to me.

It's not smart given the current climate of offenses. Since the rule changes in 2008 have led to more and more of the HUNH, you just can't attack a QB with corner blitzes routinely.

Can you imagine the ST combo of JK Scott, Foster, and Arenas? We'd start every drive around the 40.

Agree. Arenas was a very smart player, both as a corner and a punt returner; he rarely made bad decisions. And his punt return numbers are insane, especially considering he only had 4.6 speed; not the speed you'd think an All-American corner and a record-setting punt returner would have...

It's amazing the impact that Javi and Eryk Anders had on that 2009 D. I remember several big time sacks and plays from each. I think they were both experiments at their positions. I just wonder where those type guys are now. We have a defense full of 5 stars giving up record amounts of yardage and 40+ in huge games.
