Don't really follow our baseball team closely, but saw this posted on the rant.

2015 College Baseball Rankings

4 Texas teams in the top 10. A&M not in the Top 40. Remind me why Childress is still our coach. I thought the consensus was he was going to be fired after last year and we were going to pursue the UH coach.

With the big renovation to Olsen I would hope for higher expectations out of our baseball program.

49? Ouch. When was the last time we started this low? I'd say preseason rankings don't matter, but lately we've seemed to do worse than our pre-season ranking on the diamond.....

Yep, we have consistently underperformed relative to our preseason ranking over the last 5 years.

Childress has kept us relevant, and I think for every sport outside of football, that's all that matters to the Athletic Department (just my opinion).

But 49 does seem pretty low when you consider where other Texas schools are ranked and the baseball talent this state produces. Not a big follower of baseball, but did Childress get a swing and a miss on some recruits who went pro or something.

TBH, I have no idea. I'm being that guy right now that has no idea about anything, but bitches that we aren't doing well.

With that said, being ranked 49th is awful with the resources our team has.

Lol, I was 30 seconds away from starting a thread. Had to re-write my post.

Childress, is a good coach.
Last 8 years, 8 regional tourney's, 2 supers and a CWS appearance.
I am optimistic (as always) this year. We got a decent recruiting class.

CGSC, will be in shortly, to agree with you on firing, Rob (7 years too late).

I'm biased though. Rob's son Max, and my oldest son, played on the same all star teams, for a few years. Rob, sits in fold out chairs, just like we do. I got to know him as a person. He's a good guy. He's also to blame for all the dang money I spend on select/travel ball now days to. He told me more than once, "I'm going to be watching Wyatt, man that kid is fast." I almost wish he would've told my son sucked!

Agree, he is good, not great. Good can only last so long. We need to start breaking through. We were so close last year to returning to the supers. We have really laid an egg since we left the Big XII. shite needs to change quickly.

Thanks for the info

At the end of the day I have no real opinion on whether Childress should be fired or not. I just remember people thinking last year was the final straw.

Pitching was crucial all last year. We didn't do a good job when it mattered. Just putting the bat on the ball, really didn't get started until late in the season. We've had the talent in recent years but were never able to put it all out on the field at the same time. We left a TON of guys on base last year. You can't do that consistently and expect to advance

The people who paid for the reno were not inclined to fire him last year. There is definitely dissatisfaction building. Hopefully we don't have to put up with this much longer if this mediocrity continues

We go to a handful of games every year and follow the team. If I remember correctly, we return a good core; but the recruiting class, while spoken highly of by the baseball brass, didn't get rave reviews from outside sources. Childress is perplexing. Does just enough to save his job. And his results can be either impressive or maddening, depending on how you spin it. Here's hoping he's off the hot seat after this year

Yup, a pretty decent class. One of the few things that would bring me back to College Station, is the thought of season tickets, at Olsen. I still make the trip a few times every year but sometimes, I just really miss the old days.

Thanks....didn't realize the class was ranked. That's a good sign. Downside....that puts us as the 8th-best recruiting class in the SEC.....

Well we finished 9th and 10th the last 2 years so if we played to our talent (8th) it would be an improvement.
