First of all let me say I respect you bringing this here, and I appreciate your request.

With that said, as one of the biggest offenders, the basis of your request is inaccurate and I plan to keep doing it. Let me explain myself.

NO ONE, and I mean no one, throws out the gay stuff for "upvotes." Upvotes are useless, and we aren't trying to pander to the crowd. The whole point of the gay jokes, as well as any jar joke, is to disarm Ranters before they can run down the old rabbit holes that make sports discussion impossible for an Aggie.

I have been arguing about A&M sports on the internet for a long time, and let me tell you the way all that weird corps shite boils down to being gay on the Rant is a blessing. I had one of the dumbest posters try (try) yesterday to use ACTUAL FOOTBALL EVIDENCE to take me down. That same poster on a Big 12 forum, or before we owned the joke, would have posted that wall of corps guys doing weird shite pictures thinking he was sitting on a permanent trump card.

By throwing out these comments, we have made the Rant an actual place to talk about A&M team performances and not just a red herring argument copy and pasted from Shaggybevo. Us taking ownership has taken away the low hanging fruit, so if we do actually beat LSU soon they won't have a place to hide.

I also use the gay/jar comments to disarm individual posters that are going to tear into me like I am yet another Aggie with a lack of self awareness. We are so famous for our infantile perspective of the world that owning up to "the worst part of the story" immediately puts the aggressor on their heels and gives you an advantage when it comes to winning the Rant game. We are quite the force on the Rant, and owning the gay is a big part of it.

This is 2015, I don't think gay is derogatory anymore. Furthermore I don't think we need to worry about our manliness as long as we continue to ignore the south's favorite tradition of putting the hottest young pussy they can find on the field for each game. Part of the shaggybevo argument is ridiculous, but part of it is our own making (WTF was squeeze EVER?), and I don't know about you but I am sick of some IQ-level 80 idiot thinking he beat me at an argument I clearly won simply because Aggies are gay weirdos anyway so who cares if I am right.

What we have done here is genious and needed, and the SECOND we start to squirm again about being offended by any of it is the second we regress into just having to deal with the same talking points over and over. Recently the football team hasn't given us much to work with, but when they do I want to make sure that the hoards of Tigas and Bears and Oh mys don't think they can actually hurt our feelings by calling us gay. If some Aggie who doesn't get the joke gets offended then maybe he is the exact person with a lack of self awareness ("Yell leaders aren't gay, it takes a man to do that job!!") that we are famous for. And I want more than that, he needs to have a new perspective forced on him or go back to Texags. Or heck, push for actual change to seem less gay like cheerleaders on the field. I have often thought that if old army (class of 60s) knew that others thought that we are gay we would have had the dance team on the field years ago. They are blind to it, and younger Aggie generations could use some gay tolerance, so its a win win talking point to me.

I am more than happy to discuss this though, as I think its just been something we are doing without discussion. If you have a good consensus I am obliged to do whatever the group thinks is best.
