OT- Marijuana Legalization Coming To Georgia?

Probably not but this is a promising start, time to end all the propaganda and lies.

A Georgia state senator has introduced two pieces of legislation Monday that would legalize both medical and recreational marijuana in the state.
SB 6 would allow those at least 21-years-old to purchase a “limited” amount of marijuana and taxes and fees from the sale would be split equally between education and transportation infrastructure.
SB 7 would authorize marijuana for medical use for those with a “debilitating medical condition,” which includes but isn’t limited to cancer, glaucoma, HIV, Alzheimer’s disease, and any “chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition.”
“Few would disagree that physicians need every good tool in their medical toolbox to provide the best healthcare possible to their patients,” Sen. Curt Thompson (D), the bills’ sponsor, said in a statement. “During the 2015 legislative session, we will have the opportunity to provide our doctors with an additional tool by legalizing marijuana for medical use.”
According to a poll conducted for WSB-TV in Atlanta of 750 registered voters by Landmark/RosettaStone, 54 percent of respondents support medical marijuana, and 30 percent are opposed. The remaining 16 percent are undecided.
A bill that would have legalized cannabis oil for medical use sponsored by Rep. Allen Peake (R) failed to pass the legislature in March.

It may not happen in my lifetime but I would like to see Georgia pass a cannabis bill like the one passed by Washington, D.C. As it regards recreational cannabis, that bill makes it legal to consume, possess and grow cannabis but prohibits commercialization. People who have cannabis are allowed to share it with friends.
Colorado's cannabis law is much better than prohibition but the wide open sale and advertising of the drug is comes with serious problems.
Medical marijuana should be allowed commercially.

You think you're taking care of a segment of the population now? just wait. we're already a nation of complete idiots. fear of repercussions is the only thing keeping us afloat. china is gonna sneak in while we're watching youtube and shove their kung fu up our dickholes. women will be giving birth to 65lb babies. every state will have at least one Wayans brother in congress. and the bitch running the register at wal mart is gonna hand you cool ranch stained money every goddamn time
Yall don't know what your frickin with. might as well legalize bath salts too

Education funded by the lottery and weed. Oh, the irony.

It is important. There is no reason (and that's not hyperbole, there literally is no reason at all) that alcohol should be legal if marijuana isn't. Alcohol is far, FAR worse on the body and society than weed, yet one remains illegal because of all the propaganda and scare tactics that still fill the minds of folks over 45.
Not only is it far less harmful, it can actually be HELPFUL as well. It'll also make the streets infinitely safer in relation to the drug trade, and the govt can tax the frick out of it like tobacco and put that money back to good use.
It's mind blowing that because of films like Reefer Madness and commercials with high people putting babies in ovens that America freaked out and thought we'd all go to shite if someone ripped a bowl now and then. Ludicrous.

The funny part is the "conservatives" who feel like it is vital to have nanny government keeping them from the demon weed. I don't smoke it, but I do love liberty and hate nanny states. Legalize it.

I'm not arguing in any way. Just notice that he's started quite a few threads on this over the last few years. Just an observation is all.

Here's the thing. They can legalize it but employers will still test for it

That's true, and employers most certainly WILL still test for it. But at least it'll be progress. We won't be truly free until there's a testing system that can pinpoint how long it's been since you partook. Failing a drug test at work because you smoked on a weekend 3 weeks ago is pretty absurd, but unfortunately it could be reality.

Actually, not enough is known about what marijuana does in with or to the body to say its not harmful. Hell, they still don't have a great idea of how the muscular or immune systems work because they are so complex. There are a lot of unknowns out there. They are learning more because of states like Colorado and California. There have been at least 2 deaths that I know of that is suspected to have been because of marijuana use in Colorado. All I am saying is that scientists and doctors are still trying to prove the helpful or harmful effects of this drug.
Please don't get me started on education. Georgia could fix so many problems without extra funds but a little extra money never hurt.

please show me where at ANY point in time I said it was harmless. I didn't, nor would I ever say something that stupid. It alters you, obviously it's not harmless. But guess what? Caffeine, nicotine, tobacco, alcohol, shitty processed foods, soft drinks, etc are all "harmful" to some degree.
quote:
There are a lot of unknowns out there.
There's also a shite ton of knowns. Nobody is going to smoke a bowl and drop dead instantly and doctors say "oh shite...guess we didn't know about THAT particular strain. back to the drawing board boys"
quote:

And everything they're learnign has been positive. Money is up and crime is down.
quote:

Please link them for me so I can see for myself. A few things:
-nobody in the history of earth has overdosed on marijuana, so nobody died that way.
-nobody died due to a drug turf war for weed, since interested buyers can now just go to a store and buy it instead of on the street, so that's out
-that basically only leaves someone doing something stupid while they're high and killing someone. Guess what...that'll happen whether it's legal or not. And the microsopic number of TWO still compares in comparison to the people that die every 30 minutes nationwide due to alcohol related issues (be it overdose, liver/health problems, vehicular manslaugher/homicide, getting drunk and fighting/killing someone, etc)
quote:

We've had decades worth of reserach telling us how harmful alcohol and tobacco are, why are those legal? My whole point isn't that weed should be legal so everyone can just be stoned all day. It's the absolute hypocrisy that alcohol is legal while marijuana isn't. Either they both should be, or neither should be.

It is coming, it is just a matter of time. Unfortunately, I believe that the south will likely be one of the last places it is legalized.

Absolutely. As all the old time stubborn mules die off and the younger generations get more political power it'll definitely happen.

Agree sadly. This part of the country seems to cling really tightly to certain beliefs, one of which is that "drugs" are evil and anyone who partakes is going to hell.
But as said above, as the olds start dwindling we'll get there eventually.
If memory serves, when that one GA dude proposed a bill for the oil to be used medically, it would have been passed overwhelmingly but some democratic count added some small little addendum at the last minute which was crappy, and it was an all or nothing type vote, and people didn't like whatever nonsense she added so it was voted down.
Still, we're making strides.

Weed always made me paranoid. Too much booze always gives me a headache. Luckily, the older I've gotten, the less I feel the need to frick myself up. That'll probably happen to most of you.

If it's helpful its obviously not harmful.
You say decades but we clearly don't have the research to know the effects over one's entire life. You say their are tons of knowns, yet science says you're wrong. Why can we not cure the body of cancer or viruses? Their are too many unknowns in the human body and marijuana to know if it is helpful or harmful. I personally do not believe in psych meds such as ADHD medicine but that's just my opinion. Please don't confuse, I am not trying to attack or discredit you I am just saying not enough is known about affects of Marijuana on the human body.

I suppose the fact that one can drink an insane amount of Alcohol and overdose makes it much worse than marijuana despite the fact that one can also cause someone to do something really stupid to hurt or kill someone while being intoxicated. Actually, studies show that small amounts of alcohol can be helpful to ones body as well.

can you read?

do you see the qualifier there? Less? That means less harmful than alcohol. Nowhere did I ever say it's not harmful.
quote:

dafuq does that have to do with the effects of marijuana?
quote:

holy shite, nobody said it isn't harmful to a degree. hundreds of years of people smoking marijuana has proven that it is less harmful than alcohol, which is literally the entirety of my point that you have somehow missed. As to your links...
quote:
two deaths possibly linked to the ingestion of pot-infused goodies.
quote:
two adult deaths possibly linked to such products
So there's no proof that is was because of weed. In that same article, it focuses on children going to the hospital due to eating edibles. Guess what einstein? Children will go to the hospital if they take 10 shots of liquor too. Did you hear the news last week of a kid that died becauuse he overdosed on straight powdered caffeine? He ate what amounted to like 50 cups of coffee and died on the spot. From caffeine. I can 1000000% assure you that no little child walked into a dispensary and bought an edible. That is 100% squarely on teh responsibility of their parent/caregiver...and guess what....those same irresponsible people are going to give kids weed or alcohol or cigarettes or whatever whether it's legal or not. Onto the second...
quote:
two Denver deaths were linked to marijuana use, and while some details of the deaths have yet to emerge,
quote:
One man jumped to his death after consuming a large amount of marijuana contained in a cookie, and in the other case, a man allegedly shot and killed his wife after eating marijuana candy.
So first of all these are "linked to", not definitely caused by. If someone at a ham sandwich and committed suicide shoudl we assume ham sandwiches are at fault? We don't know this dude's mental state. Also how many marijuana related suicide cases are there on record compared to alcohol related ones? How many people shoot their spouse while high as opposed to drunk?
quote:
Pongi consumed more than one cookie purchased by a friend - even though a store clerk told the friend to cut each cookie into six pieces and to eat just one piece at a time,
so this idiot consumed SIX TIMES the recommended dosage and couldn't handle it..gotcha. See my caffeine example above...anything is bad if you go 6 times over the frickin limit. That's on personal responsibility, not lawmakers. The majority of people are responsible enough to smoke. A few aren't. Those few that aren't also probably shouldn't get drunk, yet they can and can do so legally.

You're going in circles and killing your own argument. You jist asked for proof of adverse health affects. You claim you cant over do marijuana but then you come back and say he is crazy and stupid because he ate to much.
Marijuana is either harmful or helpful, cant be both. I love how when you cant debate your point effectively you turn to cussing and name calling. Studies show that when a person cant effectively debate the next thing they turn to is name calling. Lol i guess i win.
You ever seen the movie idiocracy, thats where our world is headed and its because of government dependency, lack of education, and excessive drug use. Albeit legal and illegal drugs.

not really, for anyone that can use rational thought.
quote:
You claim you cant over do marijuana
that is a hard and fast FACT. Nobody in history has ever had so much marijuana that they died. Whether it cut off oxygen to the brain, or stopped their heart, or shut down vital organs...nobody has ever had so much marijuana that it phsyically killed them.
What some people may do is take massive, insane quantities and then do harmful things. Just like people do with caffeine. Again it's about personal responsibility. Shoudl we make caffeine illegal just because a few people had too much?
quote:
Marijuana is either harmful or helpful, cant be both.
Hmmm....a direct quote from you above:
quote:
studies show that small amounts of alcohol can be helpful
So, are you implying that because some alcohol can be helpful, it is not harmful?

I don't smoke myself but the alcohol and marijuana debate is always an interesting one when you look at the problems alcohol has caused over time. No way it would be legal if it was discovered today. Definitely not saying alcohol should be banned either because plenty of people do it with zero problems, but it's hard to argue that it doesn't have a huge cost to society that taxpayers end up bearing.
