said that Bama coaches were so unsure about their DBs covering man to man that we were playing a lot of base D along with zone coverage. Maybe next year will be different.

Are you saying Lars said the coaches said were unsure or Lars is speculating that they were unsure?

Every single 3rd and long in the Sugar Bowl. I'm still ill about that.

I hear you...we'd have been better off playing man the whole game...those guys couldn't have been any more wide open on 3rd and long than they were when we were in zone...at least when we get beat playing man, our guys are usually within 3 yards of the guy...

Me too. We have the athletes to play man, just gotta teach em the techniques and let em cover. No need to put all these complicated schemes in their heads, it just makes them think too much.

But, Saban is the expert I guess.

What do most other really good secondaries in college and nfl play? Zone or man? Or are their no dominant schemes in this regard?

Really good secondaries play both but will man you up all night and not blink an eye.

Now, if your secondary is suspect with a shitty pass rush it won't matter.

The Steelers had a shitty secondary for years IMO(excluding Polamalu) but their rush was so damn good they weren't covering very long.

It really depends. I'm not sure any one scheme is currently dominating the # of good secondaries. I just think there is more thinking in zone for a lot of guys, and when you've got athletes like we have/coming in at Corner, it is easier to put em in man and let them use that athleticism.

Seattle's Cover 3 style would be nice to emulate though.
