I would assume most people mean the metropolitan area, or at least St. Louis County. I'd bet most people say Moe was from St. Louis, even though he wasn't even from St. Louis County, much less St. Louis City.

All I know is I had never been around so many people from STL since the xfer's and y'all talk differnt than people from this side of the state. You use terms that I would consider northwestern or northern.

I don't care. Just sayin...

I got no problems with it. We do talk different.

I do think that, even within the STL area, there is a lot of diversity, though that diversity also tends to be pretty segregated. The make up in South County is a lot different than the make up of North County which is a lot different than West County. I also think that the culture and perception of most major cities is different than the culture and perception of other rural parts of states.

Great Posts. I like reading the interesting comments.

To put being in the SEC in terms more relevant for a "Hog",, it's like being neck deep in slop.... I love this shite.

So is there a difference between Kansas City, MO people compared to Kansas City, KS people in thinking, speaking or attitudes?

I've considered St. Louis to the center of a confluence of cultures. Farm boys to the north and in Illinois, the suburban types, and then the hillbillies to the south. And of course the black culture which is all it's own. And all are quite distinct in various degrees.

The white ethnic neighborhoods have been on a 40-50 year decline due to white flight. I'm not sure of the ethnic origins (German? Italian?) of the South County accent, but it's still alive and well - even if we simply mock/copy it.

Anyway, I'd love to know if there's a difference between Kansans and Missourians out there?

Differnce between KCK and KCMO? Not that I can think of. Other than the Johnson County folk thinking they are something special.

I grew up in rural Mo, in the Little Dixie area and the number of pickups with gun racks and "stars n bars" was pretty astounding.

I grew up in KC, and for a long time this was true here too. Not so much in the last 10 to 15 years though. We are a midwest state, but like I've said before, with strong southern ties.

As far as being in the SEC, I love it.

At least they put more effort into it

Love being in the SEC. I never wanted to leave the B12 because I'm a traditionalist but TX & OU just made things unbearable. Glad we're SEC.

I agree with the Bevo/Neb/Colo ruining the Big12. Never disagreed. As for the Big10 vs SEC fit... its all relative. Spent a few years getting my MBA at Ohio State, so personally, I think the BIG would have been a better cultural fit. Thats neither here nor there.

There is a difference between KC and STL. Different attitudes, different expectations, etc. I'm talking about their metro areas btw. To me (being from the west side of MO), it seems like STL is more concerned about Ill/Chicago than they are about kansas.

I will take it to my grave that Missouri is a Midwestern state. Culturally parts of the state are different,(KC, STL, Bootheel, SWMO) but the state itself is midwestern.

Totally digging the SEC. I so enjoyed visiting Nashville for the game last season that my wife and I made the return trip back in October just for fun.

I'm also pretty happy that the deep south thing and the appalachian thing are already over-represented in the conference. No need to out-Knoxville Knoxville or out-Oxford Oxford. We can just be Missourians and embrace the difference.

Mostly, I'm just thrilled to get away from Texas. I guess that's something that Arky fans can relate to just as readily.

I ab-so-lute-ly love the SEC and everything about it. Just look at the direction of the program. Results are all that matter.

Sure, I miss the old Big 8, but she's been dead and gone for decades. Hate ku and little tx with a passion.

I was born in Memphis, TN (there is a Memphis, MO too). Raised in the bootheel and it will never leave me. I've chopped and picked cotton. We played football against a few NE AR and West TN teams, back in the day. Have lived in the StL 'burbs for 30+ years, but don't love StL. It's got it pluses and a bunch of minuses too. I remember having a Razorback sticker on a notebook back in JrHS. The stars and bars too. I thought about going to school at Ol' Miss and Memphis State. But Mizzou was for me. My first game was in '73 when we beat the nubbers 13-12...hooked for life. I was a student at Mizzou when we beat "The Bear" 20-6. And suffered through the 80's and 90's...go to hell Babs. While I'm at it...go to hell B12-2-2+2.

I want to sincerely thank the SEC for letting Mizzou in the conference.

I am thrilled about the SEC, especially road trips. Over the years, I made every Big 8/12 road trip (even Ames and Lubbock), and so far I have hit 6 of the other 13 SEC campuses. I hope to hit UGA and Arky this year.

There is no comparison. It's like night and day. SEC atmospheres for tailgating and games are so far beyond most other places, it's not even close. And fans from other schools have been very inviting and hospitable. Not always the case in places like Mancrappin' and Larryville.
