You never hear Saban or the team talk about "relentless" or "physically dominate our opponent" anymore.

I said it last year and got reamed on other boards by saying Bama didn't play with any swagger anymore. Not the thuggish "U" type of play but the Mike McCoy standing over a safety he had just decapitated on a block type of swag.

I'm not saying we need wholesale changes on our staff but we do need a wholesale change on our attitude. We have gotten away from what made us a dynasty and the most feared team in college football. That was the worst tackling performance by a Saban defense I can remember. Players were not even attempting technically sound tackles. You learn when you're 8 not to tackle high and to wrap up.

I guess I'm over my butthurt. I hate we lost not playing Alabama football more than the fact that we just lost more than anything.

I agree and there are many more who do also.

A product of winning at the clip we are is that it produces complacency. It's human nature. Not taking anything away from a fine tOSU performance, but when Bama got up by 15, the team started looking ahead to Oregon.

I don't believe that. The 21-6 was a little bit of fools gold due to the turnovers. OSU had been moving the ball on us. Not saying that we weren't motivated or hungry, but I think OSU had a little more fire to them and it showed with how they responded.

I looked up at the scoreboard and couldn't believe how many yards they put up at the half.

Agree with you and Fairhope.. I was shocked when I saw that and made me nervous going into the 2nd half. The score was misleading at that point as to what they were accomplishing. They wore us down. We just got beat in the trenches this game.

I think it will be hard to ever replicate that kind of intensity. None of the guys on the team have ever felt losing the way a mediocre team does. Hopefully, the team will look back on the OSU game and see how we got manhandled and vow never to let that happen again.

Now when we went up 21-6, I thought Jones would start feeling the pressure. I thought the game would change at that point but it obviously didn't.

OSU took a few shots and got right back up off the mat. A lot of teams get intimidated when we start rolling. They didn't. When we went in at halftime, it felt like we were down because everyone knew they would score to start the second half.

The players were fired up after we went up 21-6 then the defensive playcalling softened up, putting the players back to sleep.

I thought going in, we'd win about 14. After 21-6.. I was confident as ever. When they got the TD before half, I was like.. crap... there goes momentum. When they put the first half stats on the jumbotrons.. I was like.. this isn't gonna be good. They dominated the first half, we were very fortunate with the turnovers.

Yeah, if it wasn't for the turnovers, we would have been getting killed. We couldn't stop their offense, and our offense couldn't do anything without a short field.

Ill argue that BECAUSE of the yards OSU had and we still led by 15, is even more the reason to be looking ahead, not the opposite. The players, especially on defense, knew they weren't playing their best, yet led fairly big. I'm positive the players felt they'd start playing better, or OSU would just go away, but it didn't happen.

I think we all felt that, but that doesn't mean we started looking ahead to Oregon.

I'm still amazed that Ohio State had 3 QBs with that kind of talent. They had a bullpen like the 91 Braves.

It's all about Bama's mentality. For some reason, we got away from the run. They had no answer for Henry outside the tackles and we took ZERO shots downfield in the first half.

Whatever success we had on defense was destroyed on third downs.

We were great on first and second downs, but not only is giving up first dowms on third and longs not good for stopping a teams offense from scoring, it also kills morale when the d busts their arse to put them in a third and long only to have the secondary let a guy run wide arse open for a 20 something yard gain, or the QB scrambling for a 12 yard gain.

3rd downs are what lost us this game and really every game we have lost under Saban. We fix our third down defense, we are unstoppable. If not, it will continue to come down to the wire against most good teams we play. You can't dominate the opponent without dominating third downs.

Yep. It was unreal. I was ill about that. We dropped into zone, and rushed nobody on every single 3rd and long. And they converted every single 3rd and long. It was maddening.

We've said this for the past two years.. last year it was after the Oklahoma game where we truly got dominated and pushed around.

It has to be a change at the foundation of the program, it's a mentality that has to start in the fundamentals of the game. Whether it's blocking or catching or tackling. The attitude has to be to win every matchup across the field and just dominate for 60 minutes. It's like we turned into a finesse team this year and forgot what style of football got us to where we are.

Yep. I never thought I'd see a Saban defense let a 3rd team QB in his second start go completely unaffected. Props to Jones and Meyer, but our defense used to get in the heads of QBs, if not knock their arse in the dirt. This guy feasted on our D, especially on 3rd down, the whole game. It was grotesque.

When Maty Mauk was hurling up those Hail Marys against us in the SECCG, everyone just dismissed it as luck. When Dobbs came in and started converting 3rd and longs, we just wrote it off as not having film on him. It has just gotten worse and worse.

When I saw Jones throw a 50 yard bomb for a TD to start off the Big 10 CG, I knew we were probably in for a battle.

The unsportsmanlike on Maurice Smith after the huge Foster hit took some of the wind out of their sails it seemed.
