Landon was one of the best players on our defense this year, and was a unanimous all american. BUT… am I the only one who thought he looked just okay at a lot of times this year? When 15 broke the 50 yard run early last night it was Landon who missed the tackle(This was before he hurt his shoulder). Think back to the Ole Miss game.. it was Landon's man who beat him to have them seal the game. In the Iron bowl he was burned a few times too. He plays with a ton of heart and I loved watching him in his time here, but IMO he isn't this all world player that most people make him out to be.

He plays with athleticism, not instincts. That is why people seem to think he isn't good in coverage. He's no HaHa, but he's fine in coverage.

My point exactly.. an unanimous all american safety shouldn't ever be classified as "fine" in coverage.

I think we have to remember that he is an in-the-box old school type of Safety. I think at times our shortcomings in other areas forced us to place him in less-than ideal situations.

He uncharacteristically missed a few tackles last night, but that comes with the territory. I would look at what happened when he (and Ragland) were out of the game to see what he actually meant to the defense.

He's elite against the run.

He has the best combo of run and pass defense of any Safety in the country.

I would take Cody Prewitt over him any day of the week.

Ok, and that is your opinion. I disagree.

And after he hurt his shoulder, he went back in there and kept getting tackles. If you've ever played with a bum shoulder, you'd know the pain he was in with every hit. I did against high school players. Couldn't imagine having to try and tackle a 250 QB with a bad shoulder. Showed heart last night.

Excellent post, very well said. Landon is going to be a first round pick in a few months, and he played his arse off through a very painful injury risking further injury, because he wanted Alabama to win. fricking love that guy.

Pick any All-American in the country and you can find a handful of plays where he got beat. LC is no different, it just stands out more when it's a DB. Why focus on that instead of all the good/great plays he made every game?
