I don't know how, but Coach Saban needs to do something about that side of the ball. The 2013 and 2014 defensive units fell far below expectations. It's too early to call it a trend, but changes must be made to correct the path our defense seems to be going on.

I think we need to look to Oregon and how they run their defense. They aren't huge, but they are big and fast enough to slow down the fast paced offenses of the PAC 12. The days of big fat linemen in the middle of the defense are over. It's time to revert back to lean and agile.

They say every year they are recruiting differently. What does it matter when you still run the same scheme that everyone you play knows backwards and forward. It works against lesser talented teams great. Equally talented teams expose it.

Honestly, the right side of the field absolutely killed us this year. And in 2013 it was the side of the field opposite of Belue(and he wasnt that great either). Besides that, our D was really good in '13 and '14. We have to remember that these guys are relatively young which lead to growing pains.

Everybody just knows exactly what we are going to do on defense, especially if they get a while to prepare. They have 8 seasons of film on it. Probably need some new blood

Their defense works well for their league. Alabama would be better off examining how Derek Mason ran Stanford's defenses in 2012 and 2013. Stanford is Alabama-lite right? Yet they had better results versus the better offenses in 2012 and 2013.

lb role needs to be examined in my opinion ... have no problem with the typical big body in the middle, but the vulnerability on the edges has been exposed a bit ...

Because we have been recruiting differently recently. Which takes a couple of seasons to take hold.

No more giving up 35+ points, anyway we can make that happen

You got to have lean and agile guys as well as monsters in the middle. Going all in one way or the other is not what you want

Exactly.

We've got the Robinson and Reeds of the world inside. Guys like Allen and Hand outside. Plus Pettway.

Then of course Evans, Miller, and Brown.

Kind of amazing how we went a year or 2 where we only gave up more than 20 points once or twice and now its just a regular occurance. I remember freaking out when A&M scored 29 on us in 2012. The game of football has changed but I don't think the change has been that dramatic.

The game has changed, but the Bama team is powerful enough to put a stranglehold on it, and still only allow no more than 20 points a game. Make every defense in college football look like shite

Our front 7 was stout this season. OSU got a third of their rushing yards last night on one play with two of our LBs hurt and our all american safety hurt as well. The problem is the secondary. They suck, plain and simple. Our zone scheme sucks and we suck in man to man, our safeties suck at getting over to help a corner who has been beat. Our guys suck at turning around and finding the ball. Whatever they are doing in the secondary needs to be completely replaced this offseason and Saban may even need to swallow his pride and fire himself as the DB coach.

osu's rb had 130 yds rushing before his long run ... that long run didn't skew the stats that much ... they made some plays with the running game that made the front 7 look less than capable ... not sure if it's the dline, lbs, or dbs, but osu ran the ball with success before that long play (assume you're talking about the late 4th quarter play) ...

That run was a big percentage of their rush yards anyway you slice it. We did struggle against the run some last night but overall we were good all year there. Can't say the same for the secondary.
