Incredibly terrible game. Maybe OK from mid third to mid fourth quarter, but that's it.

I honestly have never seen a worse defense on third down than what I saw tonight.

Ok, I'm done venting.

For some reason Bama didn't start blitzing until mid-way through the 3rd quarter.

maybe a little tired from being on the field all night...considering kiffins inept offensive scheme.

secondary has sucked all year.

I think saban outsmarts himself. We were sending 4, sometimes 5 new guys out there in the first half every other play. Granted, the man has forgotten more football than I know, but when he has time to prepare I just think he overthinks himself.

Secondary problems are personnel. Just didnt have talent there at those positions this season.

2 things happened.

1. Eddie Jackson repeatedly got beat while in man coverage.

2. Instead of benching Jackson, Nick prefers to settle in a soft zone, allowing OSU to completely stiff-fist us the rest of the game.

Jackson was benched in the Auburn game (mainly because Nick knows that he absolutely cannot lose to Auburn twice in a row). Why not here?

We pay these coaches far too much money to not make those adjustments.

Bad tackling didn't help. Their runners usually got a few yards after contact. I hate to say it but they were more physical

When Landon went down that opened the gates for their long run.

I can hardly complain about injuries when we just got skullfricked by a third string qb.

Losing Ragland hurt. That long run went right at his replacement.

What?

We got burned on a lot of absurdly ineffective blitzes in the first half.

We brought 5 on most of their third and longs. It took just as long to get to the QB as 3 or 4 though, which left the middle wide open for crossing patterns or QB runs.

This this this.

We have gone away from the "make his arse quit" mentality. We had some huge hits out there on defense, but we don't run the ball like we're pissed anymore. I mean hell--did you ever see Julio Jones voluntarily step out of bounds?

Dig back to 2008 . . our coming out party. We just wore people down. We don't do that any more.

Ohio State did that to us. I'm not calling for anyone's head. I'm just saying we need to look in the mirror and go back to what Saban said in his opening speech. We want people to dread playing us. They don't any more.

JMO but I thought Anderson and Ragland were somewhat M.I.A. the 1st half.

You happened to the defense.

It is entirely your fault.

How will you make amends to the rest of the Bama faithful for this tremendous transgression?

While they didn't play well last night, I think defenses across the nation are still trying to adapt to the read option/spread offenses. Kind of similar to the late 60's and then into the 70's with the triple option/wishbone. It took most of the 70's and into the early 80's for defenses to finally come to grips with it...

Last night, I couldn't believe how well the OSU QB ran against us...it's not like he's all that fast, yet he was torching us and we couldn't tackle him. As bad as our secondary was, I think we win if we could've just kept their QB from running; I think he converted just as many 3rd downs running as he did passing. I'm no DC, but I wonder why we don't try using a spy on mobile QBs...

There were several time Nick Perry had to completely change what he was doing to cover for Eddie Jackson gettin beat.

In the second half, the defense turned it up a notch toward the end with the exception of the long TD run. I think that was a result of being gassed and having both Collins and Ragland out.

The elephant in the room is the defense has regressed every year since 2011. We now give up 30/40 points regularly. Some of that is how the game has changed. Another part of that is our defense regressing. Our secondary play is terrible and I don't see it improving next year.

This isn't 2008, 2009, or even 2011. Offenses are much more dynamic now. We aren't playing many pro-style offenses with dropback passers. We've got to find a way to adapt. That said, the HUNH isn't what is killing us. Its the third down defense. The way our defense plays, it literally doesn't matter what happens on 1st and 2nd Down. That is problem that goes back to last year. Offenses find confidence in that situation. It truly is amazing.

There was no Mt. Cody, Rolando McClain, or Dre Kirkpatrick on this team. Alabama's defense did not have studs this season. I don't follow recruiting, but Saban is missing a lot of what made the 2011 defense so great.

Exactly. We have 1 guy that will almost assuredly get drafted in the 1st round..........1. I know recruiting rankings are just that but damn we should have a few more studs than that on THIS team.

There isn't any other way to slice it: they just played awful last night. Not every single player, but for the most part, we just played soft.
