It'll be interesting to see how the huge contracts landed by guys like Muschamp and Chavis set the market for SEC DCs, specifically as it pertains to us and Robb Smith.

Stating the obvious here, but Smith absolutely turned around the culture of our defense and in turn helped Bielema significantly alter personality of our program from the finesse, offensive identity of the Petrino years to the physical, tough defensive mindset we now possess. That's no easy task given where we were just two years ago philosophically and one year ago in terms in depth and youth. Honestly, he's earned every penny of whatever he gets, and Bielema specifically came here because we'd pony up for assistants in order to compete at the highest levels -- time for us to ante up.

Agreed. We better back up a truck to the bank vault and stuff every cubic inch with hundos. Hand Robb Smith the keys, a contract for however many years he wants, and a glass of diamond-filtered panda's milk.

Hopefully a lot. I want him to get a raise so big that the only thing that'll lure him away is a HC offer.

He's been here 1 year, people need to relax before lumping him in with those guys that have had success in the SEC for many years versus just 1 year.

Love Smith, but it's a small sample size, give him a slight raise if needed, and if we're great again on D next year you look to lock him up big time.

I don't know. I would hate to have to go looking for a new dc after what he did with what we had. Surely he gets to 750.

I say lock him up NOW! if he could do what he did in one year with those recruits...

It is indicative of a very bright future...

When asked if he was staying on the BUZZ, he said "no question about it".

Apparently new deal etc being ironed out.

He hasn't gotten the recognition or credit deserved on a national scale for the job he has done here.

This is why you haven't heard his name mentioned for other jobs.

This is great for us in that locking him up in a big money deal for both sides isn't warranted but can be given if he can sustain this level of play in the future.

Also don't be surprised to see Smith get the coveted Associate HC tag with a pay bump, (but not retard high because our offense kills DC career aspirations).

It isn't exactly a when in Rome situation, it isn't exactly not.

He took us from 73rd in total defense to 13th in ONE YEAR. With mostly "meh" players across the board as well. That doesn't just happen. We have money and need to use it.

Coach Boo took Nevada's Defense from 89th to 17th in the country in one year, so yeah, it sometimes does.

Houston Nutt is prime example why you wait instead of paying what you can for no reason after one year.

Now if LSU come after him, yeah, pay the man his money, if not, decent size raise and fancy new title to replace Shannon's pay and title, but not what we could pay just because.

Give him half Shannon's salary.
