If I were LSU

I would begin today to try to hire Brent Venables from Clemson.
With the talent y'all have stockpiled for 2015 and beyond, Smart would have nothing on him.
And there is no buyout, but it will cost in the neighborhood of $1.5 million per year.

Money isn't an issue. It's about finding someone who's worth paying that much (which I think Venables is).

They can't afford to hire a Brent Venables. They're looking at more of an in-house promotion type of hire. It is tough when you have the meager budget of LSU to go out and hire big names.

We don't overpay for overrated coaches

Yep, y'all stretched yourselves too thin. You had no capital or money to compete when the real money came calling. You are LSU, keep that in mind.

Clancy Pendergast is our top guy, but would be excited for Venables too

Solid trolling.
Not at all. Venables has Texas ties, and LSU is a top-drawer program.
To say nothing of his # 1 ranked defense this year.

That would mean LSU AD won the lottery, so I don't blame you for being excited over fictional money you don't have.

Did you see this years Forbes most valuable programs? I'll leave it at that and have a happy New Years.

Again, you spent ALL of your capital on those salaries. When we opened our substantially bigger wallets, we had our man. You simply couldn't compete.

A team that hasn't done anything since RC Slocum left. This is golden
