so......you'd prefer that the sec become a conference that has a losing reputation like the AAC? if that's the case then, when your beloved vols are on the "bubble" and need to make the last playoff spot, they will be denied as we deal with human vote as opposed to computers.

Not at all. What, exactly, has the SEC's stellar reputation done for Tennessee? Have Alabama's multiple national titles made it easier or harder for Tennessee to recruit against them? Have the conference teams' tremendous performances on the field stopped Tennessee from getting to better records?
Tennessee would benefit most from the SEC taking a big step back. It's not necessarily likely, but I think the logic is rather sound. Ohio State doesn't give a shite that the Big Ten's reputation is garbage. Florida State couldn't care less that the ACC is seen as a joke.
The only good thing about playing in the toughest conference is BS conference "pride." It certainly doesn't help when you're trying to rebuild a leveled football program.
