Kind of eerie if you think about it:

- Replaced rock-star coach that left for the pros just a year after winning a championship.

- Quickly won a championship but some said that he did it with the former coach's players.

- Known primarily for a defense-oriented slower style of play causing some fans to gripe that he wasn't aggressive enough.

- The former coach came back to the college ranks to coach one of his biggest rivals, had early success, causing more fan unrest.

- Put together a string of good-not-great seasons, causing fans to be divided on whether the team would be better or worse without him.

- Critics came up with a catchy phrase relating to his name a number of losses per season.

In 2007, 10 years into his tenure with Kentucky, Tubby "left" for Minnesota.

Les Miles was announced as the head coach of LSU January 5, 2005. Will the similarities continue?

I like Tubby. But I'd consider the situation more like Shula to Saban (ignoring the intervening BillyG years after) where Shula could have built up Bama into a solid, if unspectacular contender that likely could have had some great seasons here and there, but was replaced by one of the true rock stars of his profession, which made him look all the worse by comparison. Tubby remains one of my favorite coaches, though, in any sport.

Tubby Smith? Yikes, bringing back some bad memories and bringing back negative karma for UK fans. Go away!
