Parents had a place in Charleston out on Isle of Palms at Wild Dunes, love the place but still would rather live in Beaufort. We vacation every year at Fripp. Savannah.... lol.

One of my GM's in a previous career had a place out there, threw lavish parties, etc.

You couldn't fricking pay me to live there.

Parts of Mt Pleasant and SI are pretty cool though.

The troubled with Charleston ain't Yankees, it is that it is in South Carolina. Vary one who can willingly live among the hateful people who inhabit SC has to have a strong constitution or more likely is a hateful ducker themselves....

Im willing to concede that Chas is superior between the two. they have done a much better job of keeping the whites and blacks separate

Gtown...talk to me about Fripp. We've gone to Litchfield every year for a week during the summer...our annual beach trip. Just me, the wife and two boys...7 and 4.

Weve been looking for an alternate and Fripp hit our radar last year but I'm scared to plop down a chunk sight unseen for a week vacation.

Nice beach? Rental houses okay? What's your take?

Sorry to take the thread off the rails...but the gap opened and I wanted to take it.

Great place for a family beach vacation, but it's very different.....

2 nice golf courses, beautiful beaches and marsh, a full-service marina if you're bringing a boat or want to charter one for a fishing trip, several basic restaurants, beach club with pools, etc.

But, again....it's different. The only entrance to the island is through a security gate, and once inside, everyone travels by golf cart or bike. And every inch of real estate has a house or condo on it five feet apart from each other which makes it very claustrophobic. Also, there are sickly emaciated deer everywhere that the yankees feed white bread to from their porches.

There's no way not to enjoy yourself there, but it's different. Kind of like a retirement village that families vacation at. Ohio is well represented on Fripp too of course.

Jefferson pretty much nailed it. I HIGHLY suggest staying in the Veranda Beach area (south end) if you have children. 3 pools, bar and small restaurant. Also check into Camp Fripp for your children, my daughter loves it.

Seems like we have a clear cut winner.

Thanks guys. We had to start looking for alternative spots because Litchfield is getting very pricey for a week in peak season.

Rig, without seeing the unit in person I think it's a little over priced but could be a good deal at about $250,000. Liberty Street is about to blow up and will be a great place to have a condo 5-10 years from now. It's a good place to live now, but with Ben Carter's projects on the Broughton corridor, it's going to push some great mom and pop type places from Broughton to Liberty.

And Damn Good Dawg, when you can drink openly in Charleston like you can in Savannah, then you can come talk to me.

Have an upvote sir!

Charleston and Beaufort are both very nice but feel a bit staged - more so than Savannah (of course I avoid the tourist places here, so there's that).
