Okay, you are dead to me. Don't expect any Christmas card from me next year unless it's attached to a box filled with cobras.

Tony Wilson: Jazz is the last refuge of the untalented. Jazz musicians enjoy themselves more than anyone listening to them does.

From the film, 24 Hour Party People.

I love New Orleans, but....

It's comical the inferiority complex New Orleans residents have with their own city. They knows its a shitty tourist town so they double down on their defense of the city any time someone even hints the possibility that it is not the greatest city in America.

I think they have a pretty realistic view of their city. They know it's a storm away from being destroyed. They are open about where the shitty touristy places are, and they are quick to give you damn good eating and drinking recs.

You aren't doing it right, and your NOLA friends sound like they suck.

You can have a good time in NOLA but you couldn't pay me enough to live there. It's just a filthy city with far too much riff-raff to ever be even remotely appealing to me. Good food, though.

It's a coastal city below sea level and surrounded by swampland. Every day you don't come home to find water in your living room is a blessing.

New Orleans is consistently voted among the top 2-3 dirtiest cities in America, and was Time magazine's dirtiest city in America in 2011 and 2012.

LINK /

New Orleans has also had the highest murder rate of any American city with a population over 100k every year but one since 2000. In 2009 it's crime rate was 17th IN THE WORLD. The last time New Orleans wasnt in the top 10 in violent crimes among major cities in America was 1811...the year before Louisiana joined the union.

Everything I said is a fact.

And yet, I've managed to make it 40+ years in this city above ground.

Hey I'm just warning him. If he goes down the Katrina road, he really will get banned.

Also, more than half of the city is at or above sea level, so he is actually wrong.

Hey, if he and his wife are too scared to visit NOLA, that's fine. Less of a wait for a table for the rest of us.
