Older SECRant Folk - Did you hate players like Bo, Herschel, and Namath?

Seems like nowadays, the best players (see Cam, Manziel) are loathed by rival fans and not really respected. Has this always been the case?

Definitely did not hate Bo or Herschel. Was in awe watching them

Loathed or hated on a personal level might be too strong, but you hated that they played for your rival.
Watching Herschel was like watching a being from another planet....he was just so much better than everyone else. I was filled with envy until Bo came along.

I had lots of respect for Bo and Herschel.They played hard and were never in the news for the wrong reasons.
They weren't "Diva's" like Cam,RG3,JFF.
Joe was a little before my time but my parents loved watching him play for Bama.

I could never hate on Bo Jackson because 1): the guy was probably the most amazing athlete ever and 2): although I hated he played for Auburn, Jackson always carried himself with class. I have nothing but respect for Jackson.
Cam is a lying cheating arrogant douchebag of the first order as is Manziel and Winston.......which is why I was glad to see a good guy like MM win the Heisman.

Bo was like nothing I had ever seen before or since. I enjoyed Reggie White, Herschel, Emmitt Smith and Payton. Never hated any of them, thats a strong damn word to begin with, just didnt like the fact that they beat your team all the time.

The Internet fans are what has made me pull against the most current talked about players in our league.......not all but some.
Back when the above mentioned players were active the smack wasn't anywhere like it is now. I appreciated them more without the non stop fluffing and trash talk.

I love all 3. Namath obviously. You can't hate Bo or Hershel. Cam was/is a beast. Just wished he played in the ACC

Back in the old days we did not get to watch guys like Namath, Archie, Spurrier, Herschel and many others on tv every weekend. I admired the play of these guys and would read game wraps in the Sunday paper.
Would listen on Sat. nights to the pick of dixie radio game of the week.
Heard Billy Cannond return play on the radio.
I got to see Bo play by being there, saw Herschel once and would put those two at the very top.
Can't speak for all but we would talk about their exploits on the field in a positive manner.

Bo, Hershel and Joe Willy are great athletes.
Cam and JFF are also great athletes but too many people jealous of their abilities and social media makes it too easy for haters to hide behind their computers.

Grew up on Herschel and Bo. Loved both of those guys. 1A and 1B as far as the best players I have seen. Namath was before my time.
