is there a reason why you guys didn't start playing regularly until the 80s? or did it just never happen until then?
Rupp wasn't a big fan of playing instate competition and for awhile after that Joe B. Hall carried that on into his coaching tenure. The board finally overruled the practice in the 80s.

Tommy Turtleneck isn't going to be happy with this turnout.

Word is that lower arena seats are going for over $2,000. I bet plenty of UK fans ponied up to see the game!

The way I remember it is Rupp refused to play instate teams as he considered it beneath UK to play such schools, nothing to gain, and didn't want to give them the exposure. It was the state legislature that stepped in and forced UK to play Louisville in both football and basketball.

No. The state legislature didn't step in. The AD at the time did and they voted among the board of directors at UK to begin playing them in basketball.

UK needs to beat that behind. As much as it pains me to say so... Go Wildcats.

If UK does to Louisville what they did to UCLA, it would be glorious... and scary as frick.

Louisville is a much better team than UCLA. It may be a amore favorable matchup for UK then Texas was but I expect them to bring their A game. And they're going to try to rough and ugly things up early.
If it ends up a blowout, then this UK team is probably better than I could've imagined. I don't think that happens though.

If you blow out this Louisville team then we might be looking at one of the best college basketball teams to come down the pipe in a long time.

There will be a ton of UK fans in the house today. Louisville is a commuter school. Always has been, always will be.
