Did any team have more of a bullseye on them than F$U this year?

Here is something to chew on..

If Bama wins it this year, in 3 more games, they still will not have beaten as many top 20 teams as 1983 AU. Same number of top 10 teams. Lower winning percentage of opponents overall though.

So short answer, they will be close to equalling the most accomplished national champion ever and will have the same 1 loss record as 1983 AU.

2009 Bama is also the only team to ever defeat two 13-win teams enroute to a 14-0 season (Gators and 'Horns).

Btw, if Bama does win it all, they will have beaten 4 top 20 teams in a row. Pretty good, but the all time record is 5 consecutive wins against top 20 teams, something only 1 team in NCAA history has ever accomplished.

1983 AU of course and 4 of those 5 were top ten teams (Bama was the only one that wasn't top ten, but were top 20).

1983 is probably the gold standard of comparing accomplishments for a National Champion. Not saying they are the best team in NCAA history, but they may be the most accomplished team in college history.

Down year because all 4 final teams were outplayed more than once this year and all have several weaknesses. That being said- the game is still about winning - there just aren't any teams that anybody is scared of- there are probably 20 teams that feel they are just as good as the top 4. In years past, that has not been the cases.

1995 Nebraska's cumulative opponent record is unimpressive. 2011 LSU wins the battle because their opponents lost fewer games than 2009 and 2014 Alabama's. 2011 LSU's victories over Oregon, West Virginia, Alabama, and Arkansas would beat Alabama's 4 best victories this season should Alabama win the playoffs.

2011 West Virginia >>> 2014 West Virginia
2011 Arkansas > 2014 Arkansas
2011 Alabama >>> 2014 LSU and 2011 Alabama > 2014 Alabama

Oregon is the only team that arguably may be better this season than in 2011.

I think we all agree this is a bit of a down year across the board.

Why do people keep saying this? What does an "up" year of college football look like?

I don't get this either. I think there are more really good teams this year than there has been in a looong time.

Would love to see a break down of Auburn 2004 or 1983

There have been a plethora of upsets and underachieving teams this season just like in 2007. There was much more parity and no "great" teams. Ohio State had a terrible loss. Alabama had some close calls, albeit against SEC competition. Oregon lost at home to a team that lucked its way into the south division title. Florida State isn't down; they just are a middle of the pack team that scraped by an unremarkable schedule.

It's the 98 Vols.

Last team to win back to back SEC titles

Beat 4 teams in BCS top 15 standings

Beat 6 ranked teams

Beat 4 teams in top 10

a) Florida State is the most talented team in the country
b) FSU beat 3 ranked teams; Bama beat 4 (such a "remarkable" difference)

This website says their average margin was 18.5. There were a few teams over 30, including 2005 Texas and FSU last year.
