Off-Topic board ballers and world travelers unite!

My family and I have to travel to Oklahoma City in May. We've thought about driving Griswold style out there from Alabama. However, if we could book a cheap flight, I'd rather my family of 5 annoy everyone else on the plane for a couple of hours than annoy me for 12 hours.

So, what are your tips, tricks, websites, and any other useful advice on booking a cheap flight?

I'm open to giving each poster with useful advice an over the pants HJ at a local Sonic of your choice.

TIA

We have frequent flyer points, travel agents, and platinum SkyMiles AmEx's. We can't help you. You need the college kid who flies once or twice a year.

I'm a big SW fan because it's utility bare minimum with no additional charges. No frills and no assigned seating.

There's a calendar where you can enter in your days and it will give you the cheapest flights in that range.

Through my experience flights are generally cheaper on Saturdays. At least for Delta and American.

Birmingham……but Atlanta isn't out of the question. It's only about 3 1/2 hours away.

If it's more than a week or 2 away, the links given earlier may get you an overall better deal from Birmingham. Especially if you figure in gas, parking, etc. and your time going to Atlanta and back.

If you break your party into a group of two and a group of three, it may be cheaper.
I've done this with my family and it saved me some dough for a flight to San diego.
