quote:

Police Chief Jon Belmar said the officer was responding to a larceny call at a Mobil on the Run station about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday when the shooting happened.

The officer saw two people on the parking lot in the 6800 block of North Hanley Road and began talking with them.

Belmar said one of the people approached the driver's side of the vehicle.

One of the individuals "produced a pistol with his arm straight out, pointing it straight at the officer kind of from across the hood," Belmar said.

At that point, the chief said, the officer got his service revolver "and fired what we think is three shots."

quote:

Belmar declined to release his name at the news conference but said he had a criminal record, with charges including three assaults, armed robbery, armed criminal action and multiple uses of weapons since he was 17.

A woman at the scene overnight, Toni Martin-Green, said it was her son, Antonio Martin, 18.

quote:

Between 200 and 300 protesters gathered at the scene after the shooting, and conflicts broke out between officers and protesters, Belmar said.

Four people were arrested for assaulting officers, and at least one officer was injured when he tried to get away from some sort of firework device set off on the parking lot, Belmar said.

Protesters also threw some bricks at officers, Belmar said. Police used pepper spray on the crowd but did not use any tear gas, the chief said.

He also said several police cars were damaged, and some protesters brought bags of rocks to the scene.

As to suggestions that the officer should have used a Taser instead of his gun, Belmar said: "Frankly that's unreasonable." The officer also had a body camera issued to him at the start of his shift, but he was not wearing it. The car's dash-camera was not activated.

Nothing to see here. Just "bringing awareness" is all.

No, just pointed a loaded gun at him. You can see it in the video. The cop did the right thing.

Side note, this particular police force is 75% black.

Oh and apparently he had been expelled from school and was being encouraged to "get his life together" by joining Job Corp.

Can't wait for the plethora of articles on how the school system failed him and made him a criminal.

Point a gun at a cop and get shot. Funny how that works.

I can promise you it's coming. They recently did an "expose" here on the rate of suspension for black males and it's correlation between the rate of juvenile lock ups. Basically blamed the school system for it.

They didn't bother to mention that my county has gotten rid of their zero tolerance policy so the kids getting suspended and sent to alternative school have to be caught running drugs, actually threatening someone with a firearm, mulitiple assaults on a teacher, etc. to get there. And the county doesn't believe in expulsion.

When they get tired of blaming the cops they'll just move on to the school system.

Unfortunately there are outliers to any statistic. And it's tragic as hell. But we now have crowds who don't give a shite about the facts attacking police officers who are simply defending themselves. There's no fricking excuse for it and I don't give a shite how much people don't like cops.

I'd pack up, pull the hell out, and let them deal with their own criminals if that's the kind of response the police are going to get whenever something like this happens.

Thanks Bruce. Now STFU and read the article. This piece of human excrement pointed a loaded gun at a police officer and got dead for it. Good riddance.

ETA: And Merry Christmas to you, sir.

you should've read the post i quoted from a cop saying all it takes to not get shot is to not commit an armed robbery. that is blatantly false, and i never said the guy last night didn't totally deserved it, becuase he did. shooting an armed man doesn't change the facts of all the unarmed one who have been un"justifiable" homicide victims.

i hope santa brings you the ability to work the internetz, but a merry one to you and your's as well

Being unarmed hasn't got shite to do with it. You can be unarmed and be justifiably shot too. Basically, don't start shite and you will be fine.

Facts also say good majority of justifiable homicides at the hands of cops are just that, justifiable.

But instead we're promoting mob justice in any case that a cop shoots a young black man/teen. See the mob that showed up after this particular shooting. There are even people who are saying that the cop should've done more. So now we're expecting police to have superhuman reaction times when a loaded gun is pulled on them.

It's the same shite I see in the school system. More and more pressure is put on the system to change to the point of ridiculousness and there is absolutely no personal responsibility for criminal actions anymore.
