PHILADELPHIA – After guiding Mississippi State to its first 10-win regular season and first appearance in the Orange Bowl since 1941, head coach Dan Mullen has been recognized as the Maxwell Football Club’s Collegiate Coach of the Year, the organization announced Monday.
Mullen is the first coach in the 115-year history of MSU football to claim a National Coach of the Year award. He beat out two other finalists in Oregon’s Mark Helfrich and Ohio State’s Urban Meyer.

Well he did out coach Mullen head to head, and has Alabama in the playoff in a rebuilding year. But once coaches are "established" they dont win these awards anymore. So congrats to Mullen

If anyone deserved it, it was Murlins.
That's the problem with these coaching awards though, you can usually make a case for 4-5 coaches every year.

Argument could have been made for Saban easily. He just won the hardest conference in football with a RB playing Quarterback.
But if he didn't win it, I'm glad Dern did.

He's our WR coach with a co-title that gets him more money. Mullen is our OC...
If he gets offered the head job, he would be crazy not to take it. Given who they've interviewed, I really can't see him being the choice for them though...
