Ticket prices for both playoff games are selling below cost. Why?

My opinion is that those folks putting on the playoff, have forgotten the average fan and priced these games out of reach of the common fan. The same folks who ran the BCS are running the CFP. They have attempted to turn college football into NFL lite. Only problem is lack of corporate sponsorship and unlimited pockets of the teams fanbase.

Super Bowl tickets are by and large given out to corporate sponsors. Money is not relevant. These tickets are given to preferred customers. College football? Yes, there are a few corporate but not like the NFL.

So, why are prices down? You arguably have in OSU and Bama the two most rabid fan bases in all of college football. Prices are down IMHO because people cannot afford them. Simple huh! I spent 5000 going to the ND/Bama game in 2012 for me and my wife. Included airfare, three days hotel, meals, entertainment, tickets etc. I am sure others spent less and much more. To spend that for a Semi and then turn around and spend even more for the Final is too much.

Now, you have two potential games. Which one do you go two? Semi or wait for National. I believe this unintended consequence will hurt the semi games

The college football playoff is lucky to have the teams they do. Imagine one day Central Florida playing U of H in the Rose Bowl. Not going to be pretty.

This 4 team playoff is great but it will have to be tweaked as far as costs are concerned. Do not want to kill the goose (fans).

Going to an eight team playoff just seems impossible to me.

Your thoughts?

Could have avoided this by having the semis on campus. The NFL is smart enough to have everything but the Super Bowl at a teams home stadium.

Agree (about the costs) and somewhat disagree (about the sponsors). There are a fair number of corporate sponsors and they are getting the vast majority of tickets. For the sugar bowl, each school is getting 13k tickets and the rest are going to sponsors with a small fraction going to the general public. So with a 70k+ seat stadium, the schools are getting 26k tickets. It's even worse in Dallas. You have a 100k+ seat (and standing) stadium and the two teams battling it out for the championship get 18k each (36k total) and corporate, etc is getting over 65k tickets. It's bullshite.

I don't think tickets for the Sugar bowl are selling for below cost. Sold some for double and bought some above as well.

^^This. Even if you have the money to travel back to back playoff games, do you have the time?

The finals being on a Monday night makes you take off 2 full business days to travel to and from the game.

People with lots of money tend to have more responsibility in their work.
They are rich for a reason- they choose to sacrifice time for money. Even if they have the money, they may not want to take time out of their work/business or family life to do this.

Face value for student ticket is $175. Yeah, I think the average fan has been priced out.

I don't think people who live in Alabama can afford that kind of ticket price. So I'm glad it's that high. We have money in Ohio they are somewhat dumb hillbillies down there.

Damn.

What I have noticed selling some tickets is that their isnt many left on the Bama side, but plenty on the OSU side, at least it was that way earlier this week.

+ if you take New Orleans French Quarter hotel rates in consideration:

• minimum 4-night requirement
• average daily hotel hotels i mid-$400's for *** or **** french quarter hotels
• + hotel taxes @ 13% + $3
• + parking/$25^ daily + taxes
• drinks/meals
• transportation

... this just for a playoff game?

At least Bama fans are able to drive to this game. OSU fans have to fly to all the locations for the big games, since they're all south of the Mason/Dixon. As said above, it can be 5K for 2 people for huge games.

Bama fans need 1 night of hotel and tickets. OSU fans need at least 2 nights of hotel, flights and tickets.

But I agree, the consequences of the playoff were unknown until this year

Interesting since most tickets still available and lowest prices are acorn sections.

Good luck with one or two night accommodations in NO during NewYears. Not all Bama fans live in Alabama and you Yankees tend to move south so your excuses are invalid but cute.

NOLA rapes visitors for any big event in a busy time of year. Should probably keep playoffs to the big cities that are able to keep options reasonable for a traveller for both hotel and airfare. NOLA hosting a NC makes sense, but a minimum 4 night stay is downright rape.

The frick I do only need one night in N.O. I got 3 nights at a hotel in Metairie. If I'm going down there, my arse is going to stay for a minimum of three nights and enjoy my self some free vacation time.

I'm sure you know more than I do about where OSU fans live...I forgot.

Look and see where ticket sales are coming in from. The highest % from Ohio! Must be all those bama fans living in the midwest right?

I saw some people staying in Biloxi? That's prob not a bad place to be for New Years honestly compared to other options.

If it wasn't in N.O. would be easier to deal with likely.

23% from Ohio vs 21% from Alabama according to one website.

So a state with 4 or 5 times the population is buying a whole 2% more tickets from one website.

So explain why their are so many more tickets available on the OSU side than the Bama side if OSU is buying si many more tickets?
