Academics and uniforms are hot topics here in the offseason.

Skrayper, I think your post is spot on for the average student, but fails to take into account the fact that athletes are generally getting into schools they have no business being in.

Perhaps, but it becomes intellectually dishonest to trumpet being a bastion of academic integrity if, on the flip side, schools give a pass and even the Tech's of the NCAA landscape allow in kids with the same criteria as getting into any other institution.

Sociology?

Anyway - I simply used the same name as the article that was linked. Take it up with Time.

Interestingly I focused on the exact 2 schools and their respective ranks when I realized this list is complete bullshite.

The methodology for the rankings is stupid. Graduation rates for football players has nothing to do with the quality of the academics offered at the school. If anything a high graduation rate means the school is good at steering athletes towards easy majors and has a ton of "tutors" to do their work.

I feel like this thread title is a bit misleading.

Georgia Tech's problem too is that they don't have the typical "jock" majors that even places like Northwestern and Stanford do. I've been told that's changing.

Actually, Alabama does a much better job of graduating their players than Tech does. Bama has a GSR of 80, while Tech is much lower at 66.

Probably because Alabama is a much easier place to graduate from if you've got the mind of the average football player.

No, the problem is that they admit a disproportionate number of players who have no business being at Georgia Tech. They want to have the academics of Northwestern but the football of an Alabama.

If you were to rank the top 25 in terms of ACTUAL academics, it would look like this:

1. UCLA
2. USC
3. Georgia Tech
4. Michigan State
5. Wisconsin
6. Georgia
7. Ohio State
8. Clemson
9. Minnesota
10. Missouri
11. Alabama
12. Auburn
13. Baylor
14. TCU
15. Utah
16. Florida State
17. Oregon
18. LSU
19. Arizona
20. Arizona State
21. Kansas State
22. Ole Miss
23. Mississippi State
24. Louisville
25. Boise State
