Reading roadgators account of shoplifting made me think of this...
1. If you received a christmas gift that you knew was stolen, but was something you really had been wanting, would you keep it?
2. Would you shoplift if you knew (guaranteed) that there was no chance you would get caught?
3. if yes to no. 2, Would you tell anyone after the fact?
Assume that you are not stealing to support your family, nor is it critical to life (like food for your family etc.) or to support a drug habit.

My answer to all 3 depends on the item.
If the item in 1 has a high chance of being recognized as stolen, that's my arse on the hook, so no.
2 would just depend on the item.
3 defeats the no chance aspect of 2.

1. if no one else knew and no way for it to be traced sure.
2. no, i wont lower myself to being a thief. I will take advantage of others being a piece of shite if it benefits me.
3. no

shite, I didn't steal it. I'd probably keep it if there was plausible deniability. I will add that if it was shoplifted, then I'd probably keep it; if I knew it was taken from an individual either with or without the threat of bodily harm, then I'd probably call the cops on my wayward cousin. I'm assuming the only way that I would receive a stolen present is from my frickup cousin, Andrew.

No, I was raised better than that.
