Duhhh....to anyone with an IQ above that of a turnip, the word "approximately" is open to interpretation of the person making the decision.

Bama player lays a hit on Bulldogs
quote:
always thought that there is no kick catch interference for non fair catches on kick offs

They changed it a couple of years ago to protect the receiving team on onside kicks.

The only exception...as noted in the rule I quoted...is for an onsides kick that is pounded immediately into the ground and bounces up.

"f. During a free kick a player of the receiving team in position to receive the
ball has the same kick-catch and fair-catch protection whether the ball is
kicked directly off the tee or is immediately driven to the ground, strikes the
ground once and goes into the air in the manner of the ball kicked directly
off the tee.

Why do you keep highlighting this? The ball never touched the ground before Jones hit him. It wasn't an onside kick, it was a pooch kick.

No foul called = legal play, end of story. You can continue to debate it all day long, but it will never change that play.

You're welcome... you seem to be having a problem with letting it go, so I thought I'd help you out.

BTW this is probably the dumbest thing you've ever said, and that's impressive. Just because a facemask isn't called doesn't make it a legal play.

you seem pretty emotionally invested in a play that happened over a year ago with a different team

You got me. I'm not passing time at work by posting on a message board. No, that can't possibly be it.

Let me make this simple for you; when you go back and watch that game, was a foul called? If yes, then it was not legal. If no foul called, it was legal. That is not my opinion, that is historical proof, right there on video for you and all the world to see. It doesn't matter what your opinion is, or what you THINK happened, or what you THINK should have happened.

So when I go back and watch a game where a face mask was missed, it was legal just that time? That makes sense.

Does the missed call show up in the penalty stats? No. Calls are missed every game, that is a given. But seeing a missed call after a game is over does not - and will never - change how that play was called during the game. I realize we are arguing semantics here, but I too am killing time at work - plus the Jones hit in the video was legal.
