Oh, worth noting and pretty cool for Vols' folks: we are told that Gator Bowl/Jacksonville officials will checkerboard the Tennessee end zone --- marking the first time in the bowl's 70-year history to have a checkerboard end zone. That's per folks in Jacksonville we spoke with this week.

Let's interject here about just how much momentum and fan support Tennessee has: outside of the SEC's playoff or BCS participants, no league school has done more to burnish ticket sales than the University of Tennessee. The Vols sold-out their initial 8,000-ticket allotment in a hurry; they're nearly out of the additional 2,000, non-premium seats they received on the heels of that.

6-6 bitches

You mean the bowl that was a 2 1/2 hour drive from Oxford. No way!

Pretty cool for the Bowl to recognize Tennessee's tradition. You have to appreciate tradition.

In Birmingham...that place blows.

Y'all are in Jacksonville. Of course those fans want to leave East Tennessee for a Florida New Years.

I do like Chattanooga though.

Man this is sad. When I was first falling in love with college football in the mid 90's, i would have never thought Tennessee would so happy to go 6-6 and be in a meaningless bowl. Now they are bragging about how the end zone will be painted at said meaningless bowl. I miss my childhood...

I went there for a wedding back in June. Great food, fun bar scene, nice views, very clean. It's probably my second-favorite city in the South behind Charleston. Nashville is up there too.

6-6 record. The Gator Bowl. "We sold 8000 tickets!" "They checkerboarded the end zone and they ain't never done that afore!" Long losing streaks against every other team in the Big Six.

O Tennessee, where art thou?
