Amid the fallout of Steve Spurrier's "2-3 more years" comments, someone asked Matter about Pinkel.

quote:

Any ideas on how long Pinkel plans on staying at Mizzou and is there a succession plan from an on staff coach or do you think it would go outside?
by Steve 11:16 AM

There is no plan. He has six more years on his contract. The coaching job market is too volatile for any school to have a plan for two years down the road, much less six years. Pinkel is in a good place right now. He has the energy to keep going. Plus, this new south end zone football facility is his baby. He's not going to retire without getting to actually work in it - and it's going to take at least three years to complete.

Edit Note: This one is really worth reading. Lots of info and Matter was feisty too. lol

Hope he can stay energized for another 10 years or so and really get the recruiting pipeline to GA and Fla going. Any longer than that though and you've entered the Paterno danger zone.

Pinkel seems to be in very good health for a man his age. I think he's good for another 5-6 years before the specter of retirement starts to rear its head.

I doubt he will retire due to health reasons, more like reaching a point of just finally "having enough". I agree with what Matter said about Pinkel wanting to stick around to see the fruits of getting the south end rebuilt. Pinkel has publicly stated that his goal is to help Mizzou reach "the next level" and while I seriously doubt we make it there under Pinkel, he's at least earning some of those millions by helping build a solid foundation for the next guy.

The facility upgrades being planned are a key to landing the next coach who may have the ability to recruit at the level needed to actually win in Atlanta.
