Which do you believe is tougher?
Does the addition of Missouri and A&M make the SEC stronger than ever before?
Are teams from earlier seen as inferior to the teams of today?

East was certainly tougher in 2000-2009 than it is now.
West is as strong as it's ever been and the addition of A&M has made it even more competitive, IMO.

Current. Because the athletes are better every year, cumulatively.

2000-2009 the SEC had Tennessee, Florida, LSU, Georgia as the "elite" teams Auburn, Arkansas, Ole Miss as the "good" teams (over various seasons)
2010-current has had Alabama, LSU as the "elite" teams and Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina as the "good" teams with A&M, Missouri bringing up rear mainly because they joined so recently.... Although Missouri could be considered "good" with 2 straight East titles.

4 straight top 15 finishes until this year, two top 10 finishes in that stretch, an SEC title, a national title game appearance, 52 wins. Yes, LSU has been elite without a national title. Only 3 teams in the country have won a national title since 2010. One of those teams also has had two 5+ loss seasons in that stretch, including a season of zero conference wins. That leaves FSU and Alabama. There are more than 2 teams nationally that would be considered elite. LSU has still been a top 5-7 program, easily, this decade. That's elite in my opinion.

Currently the West is stronger than past years because they've allotted a larger percentage of their budget to sign the best talent within their Western Division salary caps.

One elite team dominated the other elite team in this time span. Elite teams don't get dominated.

Auburn went undefeated and natty in 2010 and did the sec title/play for natty last year. If auburn isn't elite, neither is LSU. Auburn had a terrible season and LSU is missing hardware. Elite teams have a complete resume.

I think a few teams of the 2000s were very elite. But there was great disparity throughout the conference.
Now I think it's as strong as ever top to bottom... if you're in the West.

Neither Edit UTk or UGA were elite in 2000-2009, Auburn had the best team of that stretch.
Auburn is elite currently BCS title, 2 SEC titles and another BCS title game. LSU is border line without a BCS title in that time frame.

Basic facts won't help you in this argument.
You have to remember Auburn is the fanbase that believe they have a consistently elite program despite the fact they haven't had back to back 10 win seasons in 25 years, which was the only time in program history it ever happened.
