That's easy to say from the comforts of Seattle.

Pete's a great, great coach but if he said that, he was telling a flat out lie. Ray Charles saw those sanctions coming.

He had turned down multiple west coast job opportunities up until then.

Are you not reading the chart? He is 14-5 against top 10 teams. He did unreal against good competition

Only 5 of those were Pac games.

02 Washington State L

That's my point. He would actually do better in a tougher conference. Unranked shite teams seem to be his problem

I haven't read through the thread so I'm sure this has been brought up but two things: Pete cheated, Saban hasn't and Saban coaches in a much much tougher conference than Pete. Southern Cal was the Pac12, Alabama has to deal with Auburn, LSU, Florida, even Georgia, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and USC. The Pac12 didn't have a conference championship game.

Carroll, IMO, is the best football coach alive and one of the best ever.

After the Harbaugh discussion and a side discussion into Carroll it made me wonder how the two compared.

IN ADDITION, PETE CARROLL HAD 2 AP TITLES (1 BCS TITLE).

All 3 of Saban's unranked losses were in his first year. Every loss since then has been to a team that finished ranked.

Uh how accurate is this thing? Saban has 4 BCS titles. 1 at LSU and 3 at Alabama.

One coach torpedoed his program with crippling NCAA sanctions and left town; one did not.

Despite leaving a program with crippling sanctions?

Pete Carroll was a beast in college. It took the ncaa to end his dynasty. I do think he had it easier to recruit at usc and to win on the west coast.

Similar to Meyer, he left when the going got tough.

Yeah. That doesn't have anything to do with his coaching ability.

Pretty close except where it counts the most- NCs which means he was great in his conference but not as much on a national basis.

It most certainly does at the college level.

He won the PAC-12 seven years in a row and won two national titles (including the AP title). If he came back to the college level and stayed at a place like USC for 20 years, I think he'd win at least 4.

2 national titles compared to three. Also, in 2008, he went 12-1. Just didnt get "voted in" to play for the title

I agree. They would both win a ton of games and be in contention every year
