The honor caught Fowler, a bruising do-it-all back, a bit by surprise.

"I was just sitting there, nervous, my name was the last one to get called, like awwww man," Fowler said. "Because I was hoping to win that award. It's something very dear to me to be voted by your teammates as the team captain.

One site has actually picked Fowler as an All-American. NFL.com College Football 24/7 2014 All-American Team

quote:

FB Jalston Fowler, Alabama (4)
The skinny: Fowler, a senior, had just 21 touches this season -- 12 rushes, nine receptions -- and did almost all of his work as a physical lead blocker for the Tide's tailbacks.
Other FBs receiving votes: Georgia Tech's Zach Laskey (2)

He'll most certainly make an NFL team, and probably play for a long time. Several teams still use a fullback. Like punters, kickers, and long snappers if you're better than a veteran then you will take his roster spot, no questions asked. Fowler brings versatility that most professional fullbacks do not. He's a better receiving harder working Le'ron Mcclain

Versatile fullbacks are a precious commodity. John Connor will knock your head off in the B gap, but Orson Charles beat him out for a roster spot because he was a more versatile player. Fowler will be a beast in the NFL, not only will be make a squad but he will almost certainly be drafted.
