If Harbaugh goes to Michigan how long until they are competing for BIG 10 championships? (I realize this is not SEC related and that there may already be a thread for this, but I have not seen it and would like peoples opinions.)

Dude is a winner. He will be a force at Michigan. I give him 2 years before he puts a serious competitor on the field.

Immediately. They've recruited well enough to compete.

We've seen brand new coaches in multiple conferences come in and win the league title in year 1. It's not out of the question.

Harbaugh isn't going to Michigan, IMO. NFL guys don't need to recruit. I am pretty sure that Harbaugh would have his pick of the litter with NFL openings, and some teams would even make an opening to get Harbaugh.

Two seasons is what it took Saban to turn around Alabama.

Michigan has recruited fairly well too, so I'd say three seasons and they should be in the thick of things.

Class recruiting rankings for Michigan
2014 - #31, 1 five-star, 6 four-stars, 8 three-stars, 2 two-stars
2013 - #5 - 1 five-star, 16 four-stars, 9 three-stars, 1 two-star
2012 - #7 - 2 five-stars, 10 four-stars, 13 three-stars
2011 - #21 - 6 four-stars, 13 three-stars, 1 two-star

This is a different era in football. No longer can Notre Dame, Ohio st, penn st or Michigan be consistent powers. The top players every year are all in the south or west.
Years back they could lure top talent away by promising them playing on tv. Everyone can promise that today. Football is played year long in the south. It seems the game has passed the northeast and midwest by.

Listening to the gum bumpers talking about what Michigan is offering, I was stunned. Michigan doesn't allow JUCO guys. They don't have a private jet for their coaches to recruit. They have one of the smallest support staffs in D I. It's no wonder Michigan has fallen so far. They have been trying to live off of their name............and it isn't working.

Wrong

Oregon and Ohio State are powerhouses regardless of what the SEC thinks. Michigan can absolutely be a powerhouse with the right coach.

Oregon is out west. Ohio st is the best of those schools. When only 23 or so of the top 300 high school players are from big 10 states, that tells you all you need to know.

If Shane Morris is bad, which is quite possible, it could be 3-4 years.

Michigan already had 2 good coaches (hoke and rod) that failed. no coach is going to fix systematic problems that plague an AD like Michigan. They need to clean house in the AD and start over.

Harbaugh will be the Head coach of the Raiders or Bears next year IMO.

Not sure about Oregon. I still think they are a flash in the pan even if that flash is 10 years. I do think you can win in the B1G but they are going to have to recruit like Urban Meyer is. The entire B1G outside of OSU hasn't cracked the top 20 in recruiting in over 5 years. But if they get a good recruiter coach like Meyer (and now Franklin at PSU) then they should be able to compete and quickly.

Oregon has Nike money. Oregon will be competitive forever. Get used to it.

Neither Hoke nor Rodriguez suddenly became bad football coaches when they arrived in Ann Arbor. There are inherent difficulties there...not the least of which is lousy weather. The best athletes and best players are in the South and California.

It could happen I guess, but it is hard to picture Harbaugh going back to college when it seems clear he wants to be in the NFL.

As impressive as the salary offer is, couldn't NFL teams easily match or offer more?

I would also think Michigan did not leak this information (could be wrong). Is this just a way to give him more leverage in the NFL. I see no upside for Michigan leaking this offer --- if anything, you probably just raised the price for your plan B.
