UGA is only going to use 8 of it's 15 allotted practices for the bowl. Not sure I like that.

Richt addressed everything in his press conference yesterday

LINK

He wanted to spend more time healing and doing conditioning the past few weeks.

Seems really strange to me that they're going to Charlotte on Christmas Eve.

The kids are getting this weekend of for "Christmas". Due to the game on the 30th and how it falls compared to the weekend, wasn't much of a choice. Keep in mind the sponsor and bowl want them there early to do all the publicity shite too. Sucks for sure, but like Richt said, even in a meaningless game, you must be 100% focused and prepared.

For a regular season away game, the team would travel Thursday or Friday for a Saturday game.

The bowl is Tuesday and they're traveling Wednesday on the biggest holiday of the year. Weird. Sucks for everybody involved.

Win games you're supposed to, and you don't have to worry about your bowl game fricking with Christmas. No sympathy here.

regular season school is in session, dorm rooms are open, and there are no sponsors to worry about

Also has to do with UGA's Finals schedule running later this year than usual. Finals just ended yesterday and they can't/won't schedule practices during that timeframe so as to not interfere with studying and last minute papers.

There is a detailed itinerary of activities that is mandatory for all players as part of the Bowl process. It usually is 3 to 4 days preceding the Bowl. I assume he didn't want kids traveling on Christams day.

Do you take the same broad stroking, simplistic, hard line approach with your own life?

Nah, there are a lot of big bad fronts put up behind keyboards here. The kind that claim they'd giftwrap a bunch of 18 year-olds burning bags of shite for a top 10 finish.

Where I can, yes I do. Just count me in with the folks who are tired of the Dawgs underachieving on a level that has become pandemic.

I'll even totally write off the loss at USCjr. For whatever reason, OBC has rent-free real estate in CMR's head, so that will be our regularly scheduled WTF. I get it that the holding call that negates Gurley's long TD was bullshite. Preserving the win against Tech wouldn't have helped our SECCG hopes, but 10-2 sure as shite would've had us playing on NYD. Not sending the cheerleaders and Redcoat Band out onto the field in pads & helmets in Jacksonville (no offense, TripleBrass) couldn't have hurt, either.

What does the word pandemic mean where you live?

underachieving

We were ranked 12 preseason. If we win our bowl, we'll finish in the top 10 without the best player in the nation for half of the season.

How exactly are you underachieving if you finish the season ranked higher than you started?

Not winning our division even when the three teams that are supposed to consistently challenge for the East title, (UTk, UF & USCjr) are clearly down is underachieving. Stepping on Mizzou's throat in their own house is impressive, holding them scoreless is even more so, but not showing up against a Gator team that Missouri embarrassed in the Swamp? Inexcusable.

Teams take on the temperament of their coaches. Save a few bright spots when the team is firing on all cylinders, Richt himself rarely displays killer instinct. The Dawgs have a storied tradition of playing down to meet their level of competition despite overwhelming talent, and this year is a shining example of it.

That's a big IF. I am not confident that we will beat Louisville. We should but then we should have beaten SC, Florida and GT. But yea, it would nice to see one of Richt's teams overachieve for a change.

I agree we should have won the East this year. We are the best team in the East by a wide margin but couldn't get the job done. No excuses for that.

We shite the bed in Jacksonville. We also did against UTk in Athens. Fortunately we won that game so nobody ever brings it up. Those are the only 2 games this year where I really think the team didn't show up.

I don't necessarily think we shite the bed against USCe or GT. Like you said earlier, USCe (really just Spurrier) has our number, for whatever reason. We're going to have to accept it. Yeah I get that we're losing against them even if we're the better team, but sometimes a team has your number and they take advantage of it. Happens to good teams and good coaches. GT had a good team this year and matched up very well against us. I think we played well but poor execution late in the game cost us the game. I wouldn't call either loss against USCe or GT inexcusable. We probably should have won, but only in candyland can you expect to win them all.

To only focus on those lapses and completely ignore our performances against Clemson, Mizzou, and Auburn this year is not fair to the team. The majority of the time when our team was on the field this year, they've been on point.

overwhelming talent

Dunno about this one. This may have been true in the past, but I think this year has been an exception compared to most. Our offense was put on the shoulders of a new QB, an experienced OL, and a true freshman RB this year. We had very little talent on D and a brand new coordinator. I honestly think our team did pretty well considering what I think is less talent than we're used to seeing.

Agreed.

Your points about expectations for the '14 team, specifically, are certainly valid. I think at this point, I'm operating out of a sense of frustration from the entire 2nd half of CMR's career that began to feel like it was on a downward trajectory beginning with the '08 Bama game. Corporately, the team is consistently inconsistent, but when everybody shows up (a la Mizzou, Clemson & Auburn this year) you're absolutely right - opposing teams should BOHICA.

Agreed, unfortunately.

I'm still in the pro-Richt camp, but he hasn't done a lot in the last few years to instill a lot of confidence in me. 2014 has actually been a pretty good year as far as I'm concerned. I personally think we've slightly exceeded expectations, and that's essentially unheard of under Richt.
