Destoryed Cleveland. I've said it for years, Hawks like it or not have been the most consistent team in Atlanta sports since the Braves fell off.

Agreed, never understood the infatuation with the Braves and Falcons when the Hawks make the playoffs every year and are consistently competitive. Also, Phillips is a great hangout spot

I said if the Hawks do well tonight I'll give the sport a chance. Consider my ticket punched.

Maybe our patience with money management will pay off if we can attract a max type player that can make that extra difference. Who's on the market after this year?

I love all 3. Im not a huge baseball guy though so I dont "appreciate" the sport as much as the other two.

I like the team they have put together. Fun to watch, should have beaten Indiana last year, had'em.

Better this year. Like the coach too. He is a good one.

Also, why aren't you all so excited when UGA makes a bowl game.....50% of the teams in d1 do that too

Call me a hater if you want but this idea is exactly what's wrong with professional sports in the state of Georgia. Atlanta is content with making the playoffs.

The Falcons don't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning the superbowl but they will likely make the playoffs and ruin a potential great set of draft picks that could ensure a couple of championships and playoff runs for years to come.

Not everyone can be like the spurs and just reload every year. The hawks know what they are...a pretty good team that may compete to make the ECF every now and then. Overall it's a program that has typically been pretty meh, so there's nothing wrong with being excited right now.

Should NC State or kentucky football fans aim for a national title every year? I mean sure that's the GOAL, but realistically they have about a 1% chance, if that. They know who they are.

Your question is preposterous. Basketball is a bit of an anomaly because you can have a Kobe and Lebron and they can carry a team. Football and Baseball, although individualized, is more of a team sport. The Falcons are 5-9 with an atrocious defense and many people are still rooting for them to win and make the playoffs in which they can't compete. The Braves haven't won a division series since 2001 yet people are pumped when we make the wild card game and we have one player on that team with a batting average over .300 and 4 players on the team with 125+ strikeouts and 2 bench players who were on pace to have 150+ strikeouts if they had the same number of plate appearances as starters.

To your second question, a goal to just make the playoffs is great for a building team such as the 2008 Atlanta Falcons but this team isn't building they are simply just trying to find defensive pieces. They stopped building the year before they lost in the NFC championship game and since then they have only declined so why make the playoffs for one year when we miss this year and 3 really strong draft picks to pick defensive lineman and linebackers in the first 3 rounds of this years draft. Those 3 players could potentially allow us the opportunity to legitimately compete for championships for years.

I think the Hawks record is an anomaly. I look at the roster and I see virtually the same team as last year with the exception of a few role players and a healthy Horford. You have a team that will make the playoffs again but I don't see a deep run based on the players on that team. Not that it's a bad team....it just isn't championship caliber.

Kobe plays for the lakers, one of the 2 most dominant franchises in basketball. They should expect to compete for a title every year. Cleveland has largely sucked for quite some time, and their only success in recent history is becuase they have a top 5 player of all time. If the hawks had lebron they'd be competing for titles too.

My point was...teams like the lakers/celtics/spurs/etc should have reasonable expectations to compete for a title every year based on who they are as a program. The hawks should not.

The falcons are probably one of the 5 or 6 worst franchises in NFL history. In general, they likely shouldn't expect to compete for a super bowl every year.

I'm not mike smith so I can't answer that question...but in pro football I would imagien that intentionally trying to lose games would be a pretty quick way to get fired. I would think.

Mainly because I just don't care for the NBA. I love the Braves, I have a love/hate relationship with the Falcons (and I often hate the fact that I love them, because they're infuriating), and when Atlanta gets it's MLS team in 2017 then I'll be a big FC Atlanta supporter. I just don't give 2 shits about the NBA.

I love the braves too but Frank Wren drove me insane. I think they will be surprise team this spring but either way they are re-building a team as the early 90s teams were built; pitching, defense, and hitting for average.

Yet they just traded the best defensive outfielder in the game for a pitcher who doesn't move the needle.

The NBA sucks because realistically there are maybe 6 teams who have a decent shot to win a title in a given season. Max contracts have killed any sense of parody that league ever had. My other issue is the players are too buddy-buddy with each other. No one hates anyone like Jordan and Isiah did back in the late 80s. There are no rivalries in that league. This is coming from someone who has lived in the Cleveland/Akron area for the better part of 11 years. I get to watch Lebron every night but I don't really care about the sport.
