Fact of the matter is, I have a good source that says Saban is gonna step down after he wins the playoff. He will step into the AD roll and immediately hire Harbaugh. Announcement will come during the post game celebration.

Phat Phass
Saban was 15-17 in the NFL
He took over a 4-12 team.
I would say that was a successful trajectory he had the team on DUMMY.

Honest question - considering what he has done the last 7 years (or the last 3, or the last 5, however you want to break it up), is there anyone you would rather have than Saban?
Has anyone done what he has done consistently every year for that long in BCS-Playoff era?
We have no idea if Harbaugh can sustain success anywhere. It appears he cannot.

Last time Tennessee beat Bama not a single one of these was in the stadium

The other thing we know for sure is these programs have historically won championships and recruits come regardless....what's sad is that Saban can't win in every year with the top recruits.....why'd he suck in the NFL? Oh. Didn't have the talent advantage. Got it.
Harbaugh was out-recruited by 3-4 teams in his conference yet won it. Won a BCS bowl. Went to the NFL and took a shitty record team to elite status.......Saban shite the bed when forced to play with equal talent....
Again, in the long run...Bama, ND, Texas, USC, and a couple others will always have the advantage based on recruiting and their history......
You don't get the "11 on their ACT players" into Stanford because they are fast and can catch......
You must be younger. Saban won a title at LSU when nobody thought LSU was a team that won championships.

Not to mention this theory that "Bama will always have an advantage based on recruiting" is a total falsehood. Do people forget the 1990's and 2000's? Alabama and Auburn routinely lost in-state kids to Florida and Tennessee. They routinely finished 15-30 in recruiting rankings.

quote:That is absolutely laughable. 100% laughable. He had Stanford at 12-1, then the two years after he left, they were 12-2 and 11-2. He had that program setup for sustained success. Then his four seasons in the NFL, he has gone to 2 NFC Championship games, a Super Bowl, and in his "down" year they are 7-7. That is sustained success on fricking steroids in the NFL
It appears he cannot.

quote:No, you must be. LSU was the #13 program historically before Saban ever stepped foot on campus. Here is why I personally think Harbaugh is better. Now I could be wrong, and I certainly dont think it is crazy to say Saban is better:
You must be younger
So IMHO, what he did at Stanford his better to the comparable situation Saban had in MSU
Now clearly Harbaugh was also better than Saban in the NfL
So, considering Jim has been better comparably in his first two stops, I think it is logical to think he would do better in the third comparable situation, a power Ncaa school

I guess my point was we don't know. He hasn't stayed anywhere long enough to do it. He hasn't proven that he can sustain success, fight off complacency, keep a program at an elite level for more than one or two classes of players.
All that in the NFL doesn't matter. Everyone knows he is an incredible football mind and coach, which he proved in the NFL. My question would be whether he (a) would want to stick around for 7 years at a college job and (b) if he could keep winning 10-12 games every year for that long.
And no, it isn't laughable. HE HASN'T STAYED AT A JOB FOR MORE THAN 4 YEARS. Isn't that the old Saban line? And every time he leaves in recent memories there are people yacking about how he can't stay in one place for more than a while and creates issues to leave.
It is not a problem that someplace like Michigan cares about right now because if it shows up it would mean he has already won a bunch, but we are comparing him and Saban. And Saban has won 10 games for 7 straight years and won SEC titles throughout the span and has a chance to win National Titles throughout the span. People don't do that anymore.

That is like saying Ole Miss is fertile for winning championships because they are a Top 20 program all-time based on things that happened before black people could play. Come on. LSU was a massive underachiever that hadn't won anything of substance since pre-Vietnam.

This is the dumbest thread I've read in awhile.
You are comparing a very good coach with what maybe the greatest ever. 4NC's to no championships? WTF?

Was it? He hadn't stuck around anywhere for longer than one recruiting class. And at LSU he would either win a title or lose 4 games. Now, he set the program up for success with his recruiting and high points, but he also had flaws there. What he has done at Alabama is something he had not proven before - that he could be elite and a Top 5-10 team every single year.
It's a #firstworld problem, but there aren't many (if any) coaches left that can or have done that. I'm not saying Harbaugh can't, I'm saying he is in the same spot Saban was when he returned from the NFL.

Well, it is though. Saban has done it. You know he can do it. He has the history of doing it.
Harbaugh hasn't. It is up in the air whether he can. That makes his risk higher.
So, you could give Harbaugh an incomplete, but if we are asking "WHO WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE?" I take the guy who has PROVEN he can sustain elite success over the guy who probably will and can but hasn't yet.

Yea, that's a great point.
Also, this is clearly choosing between a Mercedes and a Lexus. Neither is a bad choice. Both are superb. I really hope Harbaugh goes to Michigan. Would just make CFB more fun.

Harbaugh hasn't.
