College and pro are very different games and coaches can easily be good at one and not the other. It's actually very rare for a coach to be elite at both.
If you're talking a college job, Saban is a slam dunk choice. His track record in recruiting, championships, and consistency at two different programs in the hardest conference in the country speaks to him being the best college coach currently and one of the best of all time.
Harbaugh is clearly a good coach too, you can make an argument for taking him as an NFL coach over Saban, but college, no way.

Saban has four reasons why he's better you dip shite.

If you wanted to make this argument wouldn't it be better to use Pete Carroll since he has actually won some stuff.

I would take Carroll over both of them.

Harbaugh was a great college coach, but could never get over the hump.

How many trophies does Harbaugh have?
That's right, none.

i'd take carroll over both as well.
regarding harbaugh vs saban, id say this... what harbaugh did at stanford is more impressive than any building/rebuilding job that carroll, saban or anyone else has done for that matter. however, saban and carroll both have trophies that harbaugh doesn't have.

quote:Harbaugh has coached 0 years at an Ncaa power school. Saban has 13, and yet he still went 12-1 in 2010, the same record as Saban for 3 of his titles. Jim just didnt get "voted in". Not sure how he can control that

at stanford.....he took them as far as you possibly could and went to the nfl. had he fallen into a situation like saban's at alabama, he'd probably have had very much much more success.

Harbaugh and it really isn't even close. A competent coach can recruit 4 star and an occasional 5 star to Alabama. Plus Saban does not have to deal with the academic restrictions that Harbaugh did at Stanford. Stanford was a football wasteland until Harbaugh showed up and he turned it around ...big - time.
This is about as close as you can get to accurate outside the Bama homers. Saban gets elite talent based on being at Bama. When Saban coached in the NFL with equal talent, he sucked. Harbaugh excelled at it. Take Harbaugh and put him at Bama and they probably win every year, not "basically every other year."
You talk about your 19 championships or whatever and act like it's the coaching......
Id take Harbaugh in a heartbeat. He'd do more with the talent at UGA than Richt. He'd also do more with the talent at Bama than Saban has....

One thing we know for sure is Saban has 4 titles. Harbaugh has zero. Carroll has 3.
We can also speculate on a bunch of stuff about what a coach would do with x, y and z. Of course, we don't know if any of that would happen.

To the douchebags laughing at the Harbaugh answer, you would have been the same dumb gump mother frickers who luaghed at someone saying Saban would be better than Spurrier in 2003. Look how stupid you look now.
To the shite eaters who say "Harbaugh and it aint close" and "Look at the dolphins" LOLOOLLOL! Screw you too you pieces of shite. It is very close.
I will fight all you shitheads at the nearest Sonic. Why cant we just have one fricking adult discussion

Harbaugh took over dupmster fire 49ers that haven't won anything worth a damn since the early 90's. He instantly took 49ers to three straight NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl.
The San Francisco 49ers had one of the most talented rosters in all of pro football. It just didn't have the right coach to take that talent and turn them into winners.
